Moment of weakness...

How do you guys counter a moment of weakness? I've been craving something sweet all weekend and I fought it off until tonight. I've gorged on fruit, chocolate milk, and a packet of gushers. Any tips on how to stay strong and conquer something like this head-on instead of putting it aside until I can't stand it anymore and I give in?

I give in, but in a small way. I try not to deny my body anything. I find that by denying it I want it more! Take a small amount of something sweet and hopefully that will help your craving! Good luck!

That's the problem with "fighting it off" You tend to gorge when you do have it, it's the human mindset.

If I'm craving something for more than 6 hours, I have it. I try not to have all of it.

Well, done is done, shake it off...

Make sure you get in a good workout to counter the damage that you did. I wouldn't worry too much. It's just one day.
  • you can have something sweet thats good for you as well.....the kelloggs cereal bars (vanilla crisps) taste very sweet but only have 6 sugars in it....you should try it.....good luck

I eat a little sweet every day so that I don't deprive myself and end up gorging. When
i try to completely cut out sweets, I also end up gorging.

I allow myself a treat everyday. If I know I am having it, it helps me stay on track the rest of the time.

What I do with cravings is I eat only as much as I can burn off by exercising. Usually the thought of "500 calories = X minutes of activity Y" turns off my craving pretty quickly, unless I'm actually hungry as opposed to just craving.

Definitely allow yourself to eat stuff you like on a regular basis. :) Fit it into your calorie/ nutrient budget by exercising and eating extra healthy stuff to make up for it.

I've found that Cocoa Roast Almonds are pretty good for satisfying my sweet tooth. Or - fresh strawberries and whipped cream. If I "give in" early enough, I can get away with 1/2 oz of the almonds or 3-4 berries with about 2T of whipped cream and be totally satisfied.

I tend to overdo it at night - after dinner. And it's usually because there was something at work that I wanted and didn't have. Had a just eaten what I was craving in the first place (in moderation of course) ~ that would more than likely have nipped that craving in the bud! I'm a work-in-progress when it comes to this topic ~ but I'm learning.....

And you said it yourself in the "topic"....MOMENT of weakness. You did it, accept it and move on from it!

It's not wrong to have a sweet now and then. You're here on MFP, counting calories so you can see exactly where you are, and what you need to do to keep on track.
Most importantly, don't give up. You're in this for the longhaul. This is a lifestyle change you're trying to make, not just a one time diet!
  • I allow myself the treat if I burn the calories off prior or do them the next day. Reasoning out how long even a 100 calorie pack of goldfish takes to burn off usually convinces me an extra 10-15 minutes of elliptical after my normal 40 is enough to find something to do.

If i do decide to have a treat I'll buy it but have to throw the rest away after 1 serving (wastes money, but makes me think how bad i really want it) I have known people who freeze there hershey's chocolate bar in a container in the freezer and has to wait for it to melt before they can eat it. Sounds funny, but it works for them...
