Weight Loss with Injuries and Exercise

I have been dealing with plantar fasciitis and runners knee for years. Since gaining more weight after my last baby, they have both gotten worse. I've done PT and seen specialists, done aaaaalllll the various home treatments, and the overall thing that would help is weight loss. I have plateaued several times, and then gained weight back simply bc my body hurts so bad that I take time off to heal, and then fall off the wagon. How do I get past the hump??

Do you have access to a pool? Swimming would help.
As would upper body chair exercises or floor /mat exercises.
Take it easy on your feet and knees unless you have those physical therapy-type exercises for both.
In the meantime, focus on eating fewer calories. You can that this.0 -
You need to focus on a sustainable calorie deficit and not eating your feelings when you hurt.
If "taking time off to heal" didn't involve a calorie surplus you would just be delaying when you get to goal weight rather than regaining weight.
Really it sounds like you need to learn to maintain as well as learning how to eat in a deficit.
When you can't exercise and are feeling low then you could set your calorie goal at a sedentary maintenance level.5 -
I understand this on so many levels. I have a back injury and don't qualify for surgery to correct it due to a congenital defect. I cannot do any weight bearing exercise per doctors orders. I don't have a lot of money to go to the Y for a pool to swim, so I stick to walking and sometimes the elliptical if I'm a current gym member. I'm new to MFP and learning to track calories is a real eye opener for me. Best of luck!0

This^^. Also, what about exercise that doesn't involve your injured areas?0 -
I can totally relate to this. Every time I start doing well with my lifestyle change the pain makes me stop and I go back to bad habits. This time around I'm going rest for a few days when in pain and focus on good eating habits. We can do this!0
