How many inches did you start with VERSUS how many inches now?

I am curious because I've been seeing some measurements of other ladies, and they seem to have more or less a 10 inch difference between their waist and hips, meanwhile my largest part is my waist, and as I continue to lose weight, the stomach does not get smaller relative to the waist.
It is as if I am perpetually bloated, but with most women - their measurements are smaller around the waist rather than their hips. Could there be a problem with hormones?

While I understand there's different body shapes: is an 'apple body' shape always going to be stuck with a lack of hourglass?

Please let me know what your weight loss measurements have been! :)

Age: 25
Height: 5'6 (167.4 cm)
Starting weight: 155 (ish)
Current weight: 145

Old size > New size
42in > 39.5 (Bust)
38.5in > 38 (waist)
41.5in > 38 (Hips)

You look (by your numbers) as though you are an apple shape, carrying excess fat in the abdomen. Quite often this can mean an excess of visceral fat. Visceral fat can mess with hormones. It may be worth your while to go and get a thorough check up and blood panel done just to make sure you do not have any hormonal related problems.

    Cheers, h.

It is unlikely you are going to develop an hourglass body shape and your belly will, unfortunately, probably be the last to go. The good news is that most of the high street caters to you more so than us hourglasses!

My proportions, for reference, are 13" waist to hip, 10" waist to bust. There has been very little change in that as I have shrunk.

    Waist 22 inches
    Hips 34 inches.

I've always had 12inches difference between waist and hips no matter what weight I've been.

I'm also an apple, 5'8", down to 190 from 220. Last measurement I'd lost 2.5" from bust and hips, and 3" from waist. But there's no hourglass yet!

I'm 5'1 starting weight of 199 lbs now 123-125 lbs

My starting measurements were Hips 42 waist 45

Now my hips are 37 in and my waist is 35in

Granted I measure around the largest part of my abdomen not my true waist which is near the ribcage and I definetly have some excess abdominal skin.

My waist was always larger then my legs and/hips up until I lost 50 pounds and even then it was even , just now am I seeing my waist shrink below my hip measurements. It drives me insane because I can damn near slice veggies on my hip bones these days but my stomach is all fluff!

I started out with a 4" difference at 230#, and now have a 5.3" difference at 160#. The difference, though, has fluctuated up and down over the last 22 months. Hoping the difference is larger when I get to my goal of 140#...

I don't have a starting measurement but I did take a measurement like half the way through
    Waist: 30
    Hips: 44
    Breast: 37
    Butt: 44
    Thighs: 26

    Currently,
    Waist: 28
    Hips: 37
    Butt: 40
    Breast: 33
Thigh: 22 (at the largest part where my saddlebags are)

    Starting weight 289.5lb

    Bust : 137cm (54")
    Waist : 134cm (52.75")
Hips : >150cm (59") (was more but the tape measure was only 150cm

    Weight now 148lb

    Bust : 81cm (32")
    Waist : 84cm (33")
    Hips : 94cm (37")

Lost a total of 5'6". My waist would be a lot smaller but I have a lot of excess skin still and as for my boobs, well I've gone from a F/FF to a B (on a good day) cup, partly through breastfeeding and partly through weight loss. I do joke that my pecs are bigger than my boobs.

    Old size > New size
    36 in > 30 in (waist)
    45 in > 41 in (hips)

    Old Ratio: 0.8
    Current Ratio: 0.732

I also hit 142.9 lbs last year and had these stats:
    27.5 (waist)
    39.5 (hips)
    Low Weight Ratio: 0.696

So for me, my ratio gets more pronounced the thinner I get. My hips are the last thing to go. Also--- let this be a lesson in different bodies. I am a lower BMI than you, I have an hourglass-ish type AND YET MY HIPS ARE 41. Even when I was at my thinnest, a few pounds from being underweight, my hips were bigger than yours at 39.5 hahah. It can be very frustrating when buying clothing.

    I'm 30 years old, 5'2"

    Starting Stats:
    Bust : 41
    Waist : 33
    Hips : 43

    Current Stats:
    Bust : 39
    Waist : 30
    Hips : 40

My body shape has stayed the same even though I've lost inches. I've been smaller before and my ratios were pretty much the same. I have been weight training with the goal to keep my hourglass figure and it has been going well. But how much of that is due to my natural frame and how much is due to my training, I'm not sure. However, training has been very helpful. There's only a 5 lbs difference between my starting and current stats, but my body has changed so much.

I’m similar. Still have 25 lb to go but waist to hip ratio is .72 and falling. Waist 31, hips 43. First place I saw improvement was the waist. My hips will be the last to go. Far too much an hour glass for my taste, or for clothing manufacturers taste, I’d love to swap a couple inches TO my waist if they could come off the hips!

I’m apple shaped, and have lost faster in my hips and bust than waist as well. I’m 5’3”

    Age at start: 40
    Weight: 202
    Bust 48”
    Waist 42”
    Hips 47”

    Age now: 42
    Weight: 155
    Bust: 42”
    Waist: 37”
    Hips: 42”

I’m going to lose another 20 pounds to be well inside my healthy weight range and see where I am from there. I’m a slow and steady sort (AKA someone who likes food and won’t sustain a steep deficit for more than a few weeks), so I anticipate it will take me another year.

Edit to fix numbers I misremembered.

Yeah, but that's what is very attractive: big hips, small waist. I would love it if my hips were bigger. I do not have curvy hips - giving me a very unattractive look.

Well, you went from having a 3 inch difference between your waist and hips to having an 8 inch difference- this does make me feel a little more relief...

Are you happy with your waist size relative to your hip size?

    Want a 24 waist :(

at 16 you are still growing so your body and waist size is going to depend on how you are built. not to mention MFP is for those 18 and older.
