No, that's not true at all. Water is your body's principal chemical component and makes up about 60 percent of your body weight. "Drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day." That's easy to remember, and it's a reasonable goal.1

Drink to satisfy thirst. Pale yellow urine is a good indicator of sufficient hydration. Darker = drink more. Doesn't have to be just water, either.5

Drink enough to stay properly hydrated - whatever that amount is for YOU.1
