Morning Everyone!
I am a newcomer to the site and working out and had a question. I recently started 30 day shred and feel like I need hand weights. What is a good size to start with? 3 lb? 5 lb? Any input appreciated !

I agree with this.0 -
I do mine with 3 lb weights and that's good for me, but I have some shoulder issues.0

I absolutely love your reward system for goals! I'm implementing something for me like that!0

If you never used weights before, start with the 3 lb weights.0

I agree with this. I used 3 the first time I did it. I'm now on a second run through and I'm using 5!0 -
start small and work your way up...
or as i normally say the bigger the better lol:devil:0 -
I would probably do something fairly light.. I only have 8 lbs weights and I feel those are too heavy for some of the moves on level 2 and 3.. Best wishes to you.0

i started with 5lb weights because that was all i had laying around. it was a killer and i wish i had started off with 3s and moved my way up. they're not so bad now once you're on day 4-5 of each level, but still. definitely start small0

Thank you! That's awesome =] Yeah at first all the rewards i could think of were food based, but definitely working on changing my mind about things! Good luck0 -
I started out using 2 lb but it was really too easy. I went straight to 5 lb and there are certain exercises that kills me. I have NO upper body strength.0

Thanks for all the input! I think I will pick up some 3 lb ones today and start there =]0

I'm a TOTAL newbie to strength training. I bought some 2 lb "soft weights" (rubber balls filled with sand), and I LOVE them. I find I'm better able to focus on form with the smaller weights. I would recommend using a size that will make you "feel the burn" while still keeping form #1.0

I love that you asked this ???. I've been wondering the same thing.0

definately pick up some three pound weights, but have a couple of one pound cans of soup, tomatoes..whatever handy for when the three pounders get too heavy (like for those V-moves in level two). Don't be afraid to switch to a lighter weight.0

Canned veggies. If those are too light, then step up to 3 lbs. If THOSE are too light, get 5.0

Love it  !!0 -
3 lbs is definitely where you should start. I done the 3DS and any size will be heavy until you get used to it.0

I agree with everyone else. Start with the 3 pounds and work your way up. I started with 5 pound weights because I didn't want to spend the extra money for weights that I wouldn't use for long. So it's up to you. Now I wish I had 7 pound weights. Good luck!0

I'd get both but start out with the 3s.
) My smallest ones are 5s and I just started 30DS. It's killer but I'm too cheap to buy 3s.....lol!

I started with 2's and it kicked my butt! I'm sure I'll use the 3's in time!0

If you are using these weights while doing heavy cardio...lift light. Beachbody.com sells weighted hand gloves that are only 1.5lbs each...if you feel you need more move up to 3 lbs. If you are using these hand weights to just lift as "weight training" start with 3 and go to the 5 if you have never lifted before...just monitor what your body can do...if you feel something is too hard..you need to do less...if you feel like."yeah I could do more" then jump up to the next size. *Good Luck and Enjoy*0
