Hello, I just needed to vent about the last couple days. I was doing great up until Sunday. My boyfriend and I got in a huge fight which caused me to overeat Sunday night. I ate so much until my stomach hurt. I told myself yesterday that today is a new day. You don't need to overeat again. Well last night, I was bored to death and ate again til my stomach hurt and I felt sick. What do you do instead of eating when you are emotional? Needless to say today is my weigh in day and I am up almost 2 pounds. I am so depressed with my boyfriend and now I am dealing with this too.

You have to learn to find things to do when you're emotional other than eat. People use different strategies. But, remember, you're eating b/c you want to do that instead of FEELING the actual emotion.
You could:
Write a letter or diary entry, ranting and raging or bawling about how you feel. Get those emotions out.
Go on a walk and think about how you feel
Do vigorous exercise to get the demons out0 -
exercise! Go for a walk, get out of the house and away from the food and the trigger environment0

"if the problem isnt hunger the answer isnt food"
Try and find something less self distructive to occupy bad times, exercise is what i like to do. "walk it off!"0 -
When I get upset like that, I run. Put on your shoes and headphones and just run. I know, it sounds like it sucks, but when you're done, you're mind is clearer, your spirit feels lighter, and your body feels great--tired--but great. Good luck!0

You sound JUST like me a couple of weeks ago! I ate so much that I felt like throwing up. I recall how guilty I feel, reach for something healthy, and try to stay away from the kitchen! What really helps is going out for a walk, or playing some music and dancing around for me. If I'm having a rough day, the last thing I do is try to sit at home, because I knowww I will eat!
Don't let this ruin everything for you. Everyone has bad days, and you can turn it around!
Hope you feel better!0 -
I spend some time thinking about why I started working on a healthier lifestyle in the first place. I'm not doing this for anyone but me. I think about the things that inspire me. So much of the time it's mind over matter. I just try to find something to distract myself.0

I'm an emotional eater as well.. do something that will get your emotions out like tennis boxing. . or go outside and scream its fells really good to get your emotions out0

You need to figure out your emotional eating triggers and stop eating. Get up outta your chair, or couch and leave the house or apartment. go take a walk around the block. (kind of like counting to ten). If you're still hungry when you get back, make a good food choice like an apple, banana, glass of milk. Only you control your eating - don't blame it on emotions or your boyfriend.0

Just remember, that every day is a new day. New calorie count, and new chance to burn some calories. Yesterday is OVER! You can begin right now. Forget yesterday. We all have those days eventually, the question is; what do you do with today?0

Ugh emotional eating...I definitely struggle with that...bored, upset...etc. Sometimes I'll try and chew a piece of gum Usually by the time the gum is all used up the craving and urge is gone. Although yea sometimes it doesn't work...don't let it get you down...it happens. Somethings that can help is either going for a short walk or sometimes I'll even just walk up and down the stairs at my house lol. It's just a matter of finding a distraction that will keep your mind off of eating and calm you down soyou don't have that emotional urge.
O and sometimes if I'm really PO'd about sometimes I just scream or cry it out in a pillow lol..doesn't happen often, but every once in awhile it needs to happen0 -
Well you could exercise (because when you're huffing and puffing you can't exactly go and binge, and the endorphins will make you feel better).0

What a good quote! I'm going to repeat that one to myself next time I'm feeling emotional and digging in the fridge.0
