Atkins- yay or nay for pcos sufferers?

Ive always struggled with my weight and im constantly up and down. Ive tried so many different diets/plans. Since beig diagnosed with pcos ive been advised to follow a low carb high protein/fat diet. Im thinking of trying the atkins plan. It aounds straight forward enough. Im wanting to know if other have had good results from the atkins plan? Esp others with pcos.

I think the most important thing is that you stick to appropriate calories. You already know that no diets or plans have worked so far. There's nothing wrong with you - diets and plans are made to sound appealing and straight forward, and also to not work long term. What makes you think Atkins will work long term? (Not being snarky, just want you to think about it.)
Have you tried using MFP with the suggested amount of calories (to lose 1% of your bodyweight per week)? If you have, why is it difficult?0 -
I also have PCOS. The reason for the low carbs is because of the insulin resistance and causing type 2 diabetes. I have been using MFP and have lost over 60 lbs. I did change the Carb percentage lower but I still have carbs and I have been fine. If you follow your calorie intake and exercise you will be successful. The only reason I did lower my carb percentage, I showed the percentages to my doctor and he thought I should lower it a little. I use Carbs 30%, Protein 40% and Fat 30%. This is what he suggested. Oh thankyou so much for commenting! Its good tho hear that others with pcos have still lost weight without completely cutting back on carbs. Well done on ur loss 60lbs is amazing!1

Yay if you like it, nay if you don't. I have lost more than 100 lbs without cutting carbs and I have PCOS. I only changed my carbs a little bit lower (not as low as Atkins levels - down to 150 g) in the beginning when my blood sugar was a problem. After I lost enough weight to normalize blood sugar I stopped paying attention to carbs at all. With that said, give it a try. You'll never know what makes dieting easier for you unless you try things. That's how I knew low carb wasn't for me, because I tried it and found it unpleasant.2

A lot of pcos sufferers do better on lower carbs - doesn't have to be "the Atkins diet," just reduce carbs to a level that doesn't bounce your blood sugar around and cause food cravings and sugar crashes. Only you will know if it works for you. Calories still have to be counted, Atkins is just another tool for staying in a caloric deficit.
The best diet plan is the one you will stick to, and the most important thing you can do is get your weight down to healthy range. Regular exercise also really helps with insulin resistance. You don't need a "diet plan" to reverse metabolic syndrome, you just need to eat within your calories and get moving about thirty minutes a day.2
