Why do my macros change?

Easiest way to explain is this:

Last week I was under my carbs for the day. I increased these at dinner to hit my goal but when doing so my protein decreased (and maybe fats affected too but can’t remember!)

I had lean chicken for dinner.
Why did this happen?

Do you mean your protein percentage deceased? That would make sense. If you eat more carbs the percentage of the other macros (fat and protein) will go down.

Only other thing I can think of is if you logged any exercise. You may have met your protein goal and logged exercise and now are seeing that you haven't met your goal, not because protein went down but because your goal went up.

The actual grams of protein you tracked will not change because you ate carbs.

Was there an activity calories adjustment involved somewhere? That will change your macro goals. That, and explicit goal adjustments or logged body weight changes that change calorie goals, are the only mechanisms I know of that would change macro goals. Just eating/logging some other food shouldn't do it.

Are you talking about the percentages or the gram measurements? It sounds like you're talking about the percentages, and of course those will change through the day. Think of your macros like a three-sided teeter totter. If one goes up the other two go down in response or the percentage wouldn't equal 100%.
