Needing some help

I've struggled with weight my whole life and just want to be healthy and get fit. It's something I desire a lot but for some reason lack the motivation. I'll start off strong eating right working out sticking to a schedule, then all the sudden fall off and have to start again each time getting harder. I just don't understand why I can't stick to it as a lifestyle change. Any help on motivation or anything that could help me stick with my lifestyle change would be more then appreciated.

Make small changes that can become habits. Like, drink more water. Then, track everything you eat. Then, start going for walks every day. Things like that. Once you've made one habit, move onto the next. The momentum will build over time.4

Agree, dial back. Start slow and build.
A thing that helped me was looking on good habits as needing to be defended sometime. When workout time comes, do something. Go to the gym and do less. Stay home and find a floor routine on YouTube. Defend the exercise time slot. Otherwise you'll fill it in with video games.
Try to plan your menu in advance. It doesn't need to be 100% healthy, whatever that means to you, just better than last week.
Oh, and avoid the trap of the fast exercise ramp up. It doesn't have to be more and more every day or even every week. That's how people come to dread exercise.3 -

I love this advice.

You can't just want to lose weight and get fit, you have to want to eat well and move more. On the other hand, eating right and working out to a strict schedule is most likely unnecessary and possibly what makes you fall off and deters you from starting again. Nobody can or will blame you for that. Nobody can give you motivation. Your lifestyle is your motivation. If you're not motivated, it's not a lifestyle change, it's just a diet and exercise regime with a hip name.
So. Find out where you are today and figure out some healthy things that will have an impact if you do them every day or most days, that you can do today and think you can do forever. Start there. You will most likely have to make some changes to your eating habits and daily activity routines. Don't just randomly change just to change, figure out what will work in the short run, and in the long run. Be ready to adjust if something doesn't work as expected, or if something else in your life forces you to. Then build momentum. If you build good habits, your attitudes towards many things will change, along with some of your preferences. But some things will always stay the same. You can't become someone else. Don't expect your life to be perfect if you just lose enough weight. If you suffer from weight related issues, those will go away, and you can get stronger, but you'll have to put in a lot of effort, time and sacrifice to become a athlete. At some point you'll ideally feel happy and content. This can be a point where you want to continue to challenge yourself, or compete, or just maintain weight and strength and endurance. As you change something, other things will change too. This can be exciting. Think of the possibilities. Only you can make change happen.0 -
Sometimes it's easier to make small changes...such as parking further away from the building, or taking the stairs or maybe just walking down the street. Quit soda or sugary drinks. you're not making huge changes or changing everything all at once. The little things will get to be a habit and over time it will be easier to incorporate new things. One step at a time. We didn't gain all our weight in a week so it will take time to take it off. Also don't think "diet". They are only temporary. We are looking for lifestyle changes. Find someone who will support you..not nag you..maybe a walking buddy at lunch time. Maybe you need to be accountable to someone. My sister (she just lost 145 pounds) and I are accountable to each other. Part of it is sibling rivalry..LOL.. i don't want to have to admit that I had ice cream! And lastly, don't beat yourself up for a stumble. That only fuels the failure cycle. Tomorrow is a new day and you can just restart. Good luck! I have 35 Kg to lose, but I'm doing it 5 Kg at a time.1

You're relying on motivation. Motivation won't sustain you. You need discipline to develop healthy habits. Plan your week and stick to it. Just do it. I factor in a day off which gives me something to look forward to. A few weeks of planning and doing will be omen your new normal. Then you won't need motivation1

Thanks for all the feed back I do stay busy and moving I work on the river, i live on a boat for 28 days at a time, with a 6 hr on 6 off schedule. We have meals prepared for us and not say in what is cooked so I try my best to eat salad and stay away from greasy food, and only drink water and black coffee. Using my fit bit until I broke it I was averaging 16000 steps a day without exercise, the hardest part for me is actually getting to exercise with my limited time to sleep while I'm off.0
