I recently found out I have diabetes and am wanting any help or advice on anything to do with the situation, recipes, tips, do and don'ts. I'm still very new to this and want to not have to be on medication for the rest of my life so send all the recipes and tips you might have to get me started. I want to CHANGE my life not just go on some diet to survive. I am mid 50s and live alone with my husband now so cooking is normally just for 2. (actually one. I doubt he will eat anything I do. lol) any information at all I will truly appreciate. And thank you all in advance. so much! :)

Lose weight, even 10 lbs can help. Start moving, even 10 min walk daily. These 2 things 100% will kick DM far far away. You don't really need special recipes. Have you met with a dietician? Most insurance will cover this for diabetes.

Try to seek out a diabetes educator - it will likely be covered by insurance. I work as a nutrition professional in the hospital, and most clinics have a dietitian employed that will travel to different locations to help those with a new diagnoses understand carbohydrate counting and how to use their medication. Look for someone who is a CDE - certified diabetes educator. I hope that helps!

Use your glucometer regularly. Its your roadmap. The foods you eat will tell a story with how your body reacts to them.

I’ve been type 1 diabetic for 36 years and my 14 yr old daughter has celiac disease, I use Pinterest daily for recipes. There’s a fantastic protein cheesecake on this sight that is 9 grams of sugar and 137 calories a serving. Your going to have to give yourself a new cooking lesson. There are so many recipes out there for savory as well as sweet that are super healthy ❤️
