If it doesn't happen now, I fear I will leave this world at a young age.

I've been a large man ever since high school and I can't believe I'm still within 10 pounds of my high school weight 17 years later but that weight is 325. I can feel things getting harder to do almost on a daily basis. I have two beautiful twins that just turned 5 and I fear every day that I won't be here to see them grow up if I don't get a grip on this animal that has been inside me my entire life.

You can do it. I know the feeling of fear of possibly passing away, I have a bad heart, although I can't completely relate as I'm not a father, so it's probably much different. Good luck!!2

Personally I've weighed as much as 107kg/235lb but I'm 5'7 so that was still a fair bit over. In just over a year I've managed to get myself to my goal weight of 66kg/145lb and there are plenty of others on here that have had success also, so know that with the right motivation and being consistent in logging your food you can do this.
I can also relate to being a father and worrying about being there for my kids. I was 42 when I decided enough was enough and I had to make a change. My youngest is 2 in January and I realised if I wanted to do things like be there to see her graduate/get married/have kids etc I needed to make a permanent lifestyle change. My father in law passed away at 59 from weight related complications and I wanted to do what I can to not be in the same position.
So in short you can do it, it won't be easy, but if you stick at it you'll succeed and feel so much better about yourself and life in general, good luck!2 -
Things get harder in part because you get older and are not 18 years old anymore, so don't discount that
However, I realise you feel your weight is now adversely impacting your health. So right now is a very good time to make the changes you know you need to make.
Educate yourself and do the research, make sure you understand CICO, good nutrition (see dietary guidelines on health.gov website), the benefits of moderate regular exercise. Get some strategies in place that work for you. Get scales and food scales. Use them. Maybe read through the success stories of people who have had the same sorts of issues as you, and make a long list of what worked for them and various issues faced, then pick a few strategies to start with. If an approach doesn't work, let go, move on and try another.
Then do it. Don't wait for motivation to strike - you just want dedication.
Doing so now will set a good example for your children. It's not just about losing enough weight to 'be there' but about optimising the health and wellbeing of yourself and your family into the future.2 -
If this is something you want, than you will make it happen.
For every single one of us here, there has been a moment, a turning point, when we have said "ENOUGH".
The day came for me 25 months ago.
The day I joined MFP.
I realised I had to change. No more Fad diets.
No more excuses.
That day I realised-THIS IS FOR LIFE
I had no preconceived ideas. No goals.
No idea how much weight I wanted to lose (except it would be a truck load) and no time frame.
All I knew is, it was CICO, log everything I eat and stay within my daily caloric limit.
Consider my food choices, drink more water and just go from there.
And that's all you have to do mate.
Just start.
Just take one step at a time. You will learn as you go.
Have faith. Believe in yourself.3 -
No time like the present to break the cycle before you start having health problems. Just because you've been stable at your weight for a long time, it doesn't mean you can't change your habits. Just do as the above (great people on here) have said--plug in your stats, get your calorie goal and try to stay within it everyday. Get a digital food scale and start weighing and measuring your portions. Start moving more, even if it's walking. Many have lost weight on MFP with just walking, but you can always do other things you like, such as biking, weights, swimming, etc. Just start and in a week or so you'll be amazed. Best of luck.2
