Totally agree with you on the time put in. I have some weeks where I work less than I did at an 8-5 but more often than not I'm putting in a ton more hours.
I see pros and cons to each. Before my days were more structured so I could stick to a schedule easier. My coworkers and I also exercised together after work so it was a good support system.
In the last 7 years on my own I don't have those things but I do have the benefit of a certain amount of flexibility over my day. If I need to take a break, workout mid-day and come back to my projects refreshed, I can!
I also like that I get to eat at home and can stop to cook a meal but I realise not every business owner, especially those with a physical storefront, has that luxury. Although they probably get more movement throughout the day whereas I'm mostly stuck at a desk to run my business.
I think I'm breaking even.1
