My top tip is to not focus on weight loss goals, but on behavior goals. You can't control your weight directly. But you can eat less and move more. If you eat less (and maybe move more), you will lose weight. What will make it easier for you to consistently eat less? Do that.

I make small attainable goals but don’t stress if they take longer to achieve than I planned for.
Timed/Weight Loss goals are difficult to achieve because of all the variables involved (IMO).

I am in the 52 pounds in 52 weeks challenge and it keeps me focused on how the smallest Loss is better than ANY gain. I have lost 33# in 2017, 42 weeks.

I’m motivated by knowing what has happened to me every other time I have lost weight...when I quit I gained it all back plus more!

Change your Lifestyle, don’t go on a diet.

I believe not to worry about the number on the scale too much, unless you are weighing yourself after 2 or 3 weeks, to see your progress. I really attacks your mind when you don't see any decrease in number after weeks of exercise. So stay away from the scale for a while. To keep myself motivated, I subscribed some fitness video on YouTube and also fitness channels on tv. When I see those I encourage myself to do more and push myself. Some of really transforming stories are really mind blowing. As long as you work out at least 3-4 times 45 minutes, watching what you eat, you should be fine. And every body is different, it may work differently for you but, I can only tell what I do.

I like that @kommodevaran, behavior goals. Eating less and moving more has been working well for me.

Remember: weight loss is not linear. Your weight will fluctuate. It's more important to pay attention to trends over time.

Other goals I have: my step goal, trying new classes/exercises at the gym, trying new foods and recipes within my calorie goal, taking measurements.

Old photos can also provide some additional motivation when you get down. I've never been photogenic so my photo albums are quite sparse, but it might help you.
