I'm slightly confused - are you trying to lose? If you're maintaining, or gaining, you're eating at at least maintenance calories every day. Not losing weight is not due to eating too little.

I'll take a crack at it.

You eat healthy meals and some junk and do a dance exercise, but you aren't losing weight. So now you're afraid that you'll gain no matter what you eat. Instead, you don't eat enough and are putting your body in starvation mode so you aren't losing anything either. Yes?

OP, is your goal to lose weight, to gain weight, or to maintain your current weight?
  • In the same rut. Reached a sort of plateau where nothing seems to work. Eating 1200cals...and largely homemade healthy stuff.... I am at a point where the opinion seems divided. Some people recommend to start eating more and rebuilding the damaged metabolism... Anyone in a similar fix with advise?

    Your metabolism isn't damaged.

How are you tracking your calories in?

  • My fitness pal... I have been on the regime for the past 1.5 year. And gone down from 79.5kg to 57kg at present. But now stuck.... And nothing seems to be working....

Starvation mode doesn't exist so you haven't damaged your metabolism. If you are only eating 1200 and dancing regularly and you aren't loosing then you likely aren't logging your food and/or exercise accurately. What are your stats? Height, current weight? are you weighting and logging everything you are eating?
  • @Avidkeo... I am 154cm...currently weighing 57kg (but it keeps fluctuating... Can sometimes get 58.5 as well when the machine is being extra mean)...i came down from 79.5kg to 57 since March 2016... But now have been stuck on a plateau for months... Target weight 52kg...
  • @Avidkeo @aeloine... Thank you for your prompt responses... I am almost there.... 5 more kgs to go... Or some such... So any help would be greatly appreciated....

@MutahiraMoqueet8945 You are doing really well. Are you weighting and logging everything you eat? What sort of exercise are you doing? when I hit a plateau I realise that I have added in extra food and just need to drop a little, but I only notice that by accurate logging.
  • @Avidkeo.. Thank you... I am a junior doctor.. And to be honest I take working out but because of the schedule and night shifts and erratic pattern I haven't been able to stick to a workout... So holding back on calories is the only weapon that has consistently worked in my case... Until of course when the plateau hit... Always on the look for some mega type of 20 minute killer workout... If you have any ideas...
