Just returned from an all inclusive eating holiday. All I did for 4 days was EAT! I don't want to step on the scale. :s
My appetite has increased and so have my sugar cravings.
How do I get back to my healthy ways?!!

Today - drink a lot of water, eat a simple low-cal high fiber day (expect to be a little hungry, be ok with it), weigh tomorrow and deal with it.

Being scared of the scale is a good way to lose progress. It'll come off and you'll feel more confident next time a special occassion comes up (vacation, wedding, etc.)

Get back on track with eating and step on the scale in 3-4 days once the water weight is flushed out.

Start logging again, irrespective of your appetite and cravings.

On a separate note, I log on my vacation as well. Granted it isn't as precise without the ability to weigh and measure, but it does help.

the mistake I have made a few times is not wanting to weigh myself, and it tends to cause me to fall off the wagon!
Enjoy it, and consider it a new start. Remember how you decided to lose weight in the first place? Well do it again.
Now after a good weekend, or holiday season I make sure I am accountable and get right back on track or else I will let myself fall back into old patterns.
As others have said, short term weight gain like that is usually mostly water and it will come off easy. If you did go crazy for a lengthy period of time, you may have a few lbs to worry about. You wont get fat overnight, just like you didnt lose it overnight either.

I pack my scales when I go on holiday...

Get in a good workout and get back to your regular routine. That is always key for me if I have had some bad eating days and consumed a higher quantity of high sugar, carb dense foods. A good workout always seems to get it out of my system, although admittedly, getting started on the workout is always challenging with the sluggish feelings.

So wait to weigh yourself for a week or so.
    Get back to normal eating.

Tell yourself that a lot of it is water weight that will come off easily. The rest (the fat) is your memento from a great holiday! Get on the scale, set the target and get dieting!

I agree. IMO, the most important days to weigh in are the days right after indulging because then I can see how helpful it is to get back on track right away. If you delay weighing in, you may imagine the worst (I'm sure I gained 10 pounds!) and that might keep you from getting back on track. I like to weigh in after a vacation, log it, and then know I can look forward to weighing in the next day or the following day after eating within target for a few days. It's a great motivator.

Last week got back from a 2 week cycling holiday in the south of France. 800kms/500 miles in 9 riding days.

On the scales when home...0kg +/-. Still happy with that. Just need to get the discipline back, now that the crap weather is with us for the next 5-6 months!

Sometimes I find that I've lost weight after going on these types of events. I can only attribute it to being a little dehydrated (read: alcohol) and having low cortisol levels after relaxing.

then dont. wait a week until your back on your normal routine and then weigh.

no scale god is going to come beat you down for not weighing in as normal.

    promise.

I have gone up and down on the weighing after a holiday thing.

After the first one I did, and was horrified.
Almost 14 lbs! 10+ were off within the week and the total gain for just over 3 weeks of wild abandon, including an all inc cruise, was about 2 lbs.

The next few I waited for the water weight to drop then weighed.

Now I weigh as soon as I get in the house, then every subsequent morning for 2 weeks. Why? It amuses me to watch the water weight drop off, especially the 2 days where I pee like an elephant and lose a couple of pounds a day.

My actual gains always turn out to be minimal if at all. All out eating and drinking is countered by a lot of all out fun activities.

You know it is mostly water weight. Weigh and track it- the more info you have, the more you know how your body reacts, and the less you panic in the future.

    Cheers, h.
