I don't know about the rest of you... but when it comes to that time of the month, I want to eat everything in sight... ESPECIALLY JUNK!!! What do you do to resist the temptation or cut down on the cravings?!?!?!?!

I ask this same question every month.. Try drinking LOTS of water...I hate water but I have to admit it actually helps!0

I really try to not have junk in the house during that time (especially sweets!). Keep fresh fruits on hand if you like sweets.
Also, at work, we have a candy dish that is tempting...ALL THE TIME! So I put a sticky note that says...."Amber, Just say no!" My coworkers might rib me a little for it, but It helps to deter me!0 -
Protein and fruit.0

Exercise. When I want to senselessly eat, I go exercise... and it passes. I feel better and if I don't for some reason, I earned more calories anyway, so I eat. It's especially effective that time of the month.0

I find that hot tea with splenda REALLY helps my cravings!0
-
I drink a lot of water anyway. Sometimes it helps. I found that exercise helps with the cramps. LOL Until you finish, then they come right back!0

honestly... i give in a little. If i want salty..i have a few pretzles. If i want chocolate, i have some hershy's kisses. If i want ice cream..i have it, just about half of a regular serving.0

try the sugar free fudge pops etc ...0
-
try to only have good food choices at hand....such as dried fruit / nuts etc.
I find that I need to be SO strict with myself - I'm totally hooked on sugar, so I've completely banned it altogether from Mon to Friday and only allow myself one or two indulgences over the weekend.
No excuses.
Get tough.
There are 2 types of pain: the pain of discipline and joy of achieving your goals/dreams and desires;
or
the pain of disappointment and defeat.
What do you choose?0 -
I have the same issue. I want to graze during that time. I find that it helps to eat protein. I'll keep some cooked chicken in the refrigerator and snack on it. For some reason that helps. Also, exercise tends to help me with cramps, mood swings and not eating as much.
Hope that helps!0 -

^^^This..exercise really does help and then you do have more wiggle room with your cals.0 -
I normally allow myself one day to have chocolate or something sweet...that way I don't binge. Try drinking lots of water and eating fruit. That helps me.0

Well, I have to have chocolate when it's that time. I opt for dark chocolate and if I want ice cream or something similar, I'll have frozen yogurt. I don't really allow my children to have junk food so we really don't keep it in the house. Every now and then I HAVE to have something!0

Try a cliff bar, theyre around 200-300 calories but theyre GOOD calories. also i find drinking tea, really flavorful tea helps. Try Lipton superfruit blueberry and acai for the morning/day, and another caffeine free tea at night. hope this helps0

I pretty much do whatever the hell I want when it's "that time"0

I usually eat a lot of fruit because it's sweet, crystal light popsicles (only 5 calories!), frozen yogurt.0

I drink lots of water also but this is where I add the lemon juice or crystal light pack to give it that sweetness. Also the Fiber One brownies are AMAZING and help that chocolate fix. Special K has those "chips" that also help with the salty. I find that the taste seems strong in these items and I tend not to want to eat them as much. Sometimes I'll take a weight loss shake and blend with ice, thickens it up without adding calories.
Just some tips. Also I find this is the time to walk walk walk, cause it help with the cramps. Again that's just me0 -
I barely eat during TOM. Nausea as part of PMS is so fun. /sarcasm
seriously, I have to push myself to eat more than 900 cals the first couple of days.0 -
Cravings are normal that time, because your body needs more Calcium,. Magnesium, Iron... Up your minerals and see your cravings vanish.0
-
Try flavoured water, I find it easier to swallow larger amounts.
I buy Nestle - Pure Life Water- Strawberry Splash and orange for me and the kids.
I found it in Walmart for those interested.0 -
I am obsessed with Skinny Cow products. They make really yummy chocolate stuff. I reach for those when I have a craving. Like everyone said, exercise and water. The crystal light flavor packs really help me to drink tons of water and they are only a few calories.0

One of my favorite things to eat that satisfies my hunger for something sweet is, 1/2 cup of 0% greek yogurt, 2 Tbls. agave, 1/2 cup organic frozen blueberries. It's SOOO yummy, has a good amount of protein, plus takes care of my sweet tooth. Also, it only works out to be a little over 100 calories. Hope it helps!0

I have gradually incorporated legumes (chick peas, red beans, lentils etc.) to my eating habits and it has helped me so much!! They contain lots of protein, fiber and iron (often women are slightly anemic during their periods). If you don't like them, you can gradually develop your taste by adding them chopped into smaller pieces or puréed in soups, salads, spaghetti sauce...
I try to curb my sodium carvings salt by controlling my portions, but having something I want anyway or substitute for a healthier option (which I make sure to keep in stock - just in case )
Hope that helps! :flowerforyou:0 -
I give in to chocolate, but try to keep it in moderation. I also do pre-emptive eating. I'll have a slightly higher cal (good cals) breakfast and lunch with high protein content and that helps me feel sated at the time of day when the cravings would come (for me, it's worst in later afternoon/night). That really helps me.
But sometimes, it doesn't work. Then, I try to let myself have a taste of something but not too much. More exercise helps for reasons already given.0 -
Some great advice here! If I find myself really fighting a craving, I go brush my teeth and toss on a set of those teeth whitening strips. That occupies me for a bit.0
-
The only thing I crave is red meat So I just eat a lean cut.0

I know this sounds silly but I have found something that works for me when I have an intense craving. Normally, my cravings are chocolate or something sweet. Normally just a small bit of whatever I'm craving helps.
To help with the chocolate cravings I buy Viactive Multi vitamins (chocolate flavored). i'll eat one in the morning and then when ever I have a craving for chocolate I'll eat another. Usually I'll eat two a day.
When I have a sweet craving I'll pop an orange flavored chew for Vitamin C. They taste like the candy orange slices. I'll eat 2 or 3 of these a day.
I'm thinking of buying the gummy bear vitamins in tropical flavor.0 -

I would OD on vitamins for sure!!! Thanks for all the advice!0 -
Great topic!
I don't have a sweet tooth except for TOTM which is really annoying! I force myself to go and do a workout at the gym (which I never feel like doing when that time rolls round) and then afterwards I'll indulge in a bit of what I fancy - generally ice cream. That way I don't feel *too* bad about having something sweet0
