how to log rehearsal

I'm in hell week for a musical right now and I end up feeling pretty worn out by the end of the day. Should I ignore it and make myself go to the gym to earn enough calories to eat more? I'm at a 1440 calorie net, aiming for a 1 pound per week loss (which doesn't happen, but it's fine). I had a major cheat weekend but I'm considering bumping myself up to maintenance calories for this week just to get through it. I was at rehearsal for 8 hours today but I'm in the ensemble so I don't actually end up spending a ton of time on stage or dancing or anything. Still, with warmups, time spent on my feet, changing costumes, and so on, I wonder if I'm burning more than my 'lightly active' setting. I thought about logging the 8-hour rehearsal as 1 hour of dancing, but that seems a bit generous. Thoughts?

Maybe change your setting to sedentary and wear your hrm? Or, change your setting to the next step up from lightly active? That's a toughy, good luck and good luck on your show!

I went to maintenance calories for an active vacation and it worked well for me. I also think upping your activity level one step might work too. Good luck!

I'd change your lifestyle to active or very active and not log it as exercise.

Thanks guys! I wish I had a HRM, that would be super helpful right now...but I think changing settings sounds good. Thanks again!

I wore my HRM for one rehearsal class and log my calories burned in relation to that - if I had a hard class, I'll up it a smidge, or bring it down if I didn't work as hard as that day. It's not practical for me to wear my HRM all the time.

Just stick to coming below your maintenance calories each day and you should be fine!

Holy hell week, lady! I do music theatre as well, so I know exactly what you are talking about. Even though there's a lot of hurry up and wait, the times when you are on stage are exhausting! My suggestion is to file it under some general exercise category like aerobics, circuit, or even dance. For the time, gauge how you felt after the entire rehearsal and try to estimate how long it would take doing that exercise to feel that way. So after 8 hours of rehearsal, did your body feel like you had just done 20 minutes of aerobics? 40? An hour? Aside from hooking yourself up to a pedometer or HRM, that's the best guestimate I would offer.

Also, I don't suggest going to the gym during hell week unless you think it will give you more energy. You don't want to run your body ragged before opening night! Lots of rest, water, and find a little time each day to do something that lets you unwind.

    Break a leg!

That is a tough question. I like cartheaton's suggestion - log it maybe as 1 or 2 hours of low-impact aerobics and see if that "feels" right vs how you feel when you know the burn (at the gym on the elliptical, for example). Make sure you are drinking PLENTY of water, though, so you don't just feel more tired because you are dehydrated. When I have long rehearsal days I am drinking like 24 glasses of water or more (I'm a dancer, though, so it's a bit different, but still). I agree definitely don't go to the gym on top - you need to focus on your performance!! Break a leg!

I decided to log an hour of walking at 3.0 mph. Thanks for all the suggestions :]
