I'm trying to burn off the 8 pounds I gained last semester + 10! It's so tricky at college though, because healthy food is hard to come by, and so are fruits and vegetables. Luckily though, there are workout classes in my dorm, like Zumba that are fun and burn calories. Any tips that don't require a kitchen?

If you can make yourself some lunch and snacks the night before. Try having special k bars which are only 90 calories for snacks. You can also get slimfast meal on the go which is 190 calories and can actually fill you up. There are several other fruits and snacks you can get. For lunch make a salad or a wrap. You will need the kitchen but not to cook just to prepare them  ...Well good luck hope this helps.

P.S. Just be creative and drink lots of water :drinker:

    Hey!

Not sure if i fit the qualifications you imagined though, being a full time worker going to school online at night, but what the heck, it is still college:laugh:

I know the local college here has more than one cafeteria, and one of them is all vegetarian/vegan meals, maybe you just have to look around a little for some healthy alternatives at school?

A few ideas to help you out, try to eat foods high in fiber, that will help you feel full while reducing calories. Also, if you are working out, eat most of your carbs before working out, and try to get some protein within 60 minutes after to recover better. If your dorm room has a fridge, and you can buy a hot plate or toaster oven, you have a kitchen:wink:

also make sure you are drinking plenty of water. Not soda or coffee or alcohol, but especially not soda. Then closer you are to optimum hydration the more efficient your body is at pretty much everything.

I don't think there's one college in the nation that allows a hotplate, but ours doesn't even let you have a microwave! Anyway, our caf downstairs is the healthiest on campus. They have a great salad and sandwich bar. But there are only so many times a week I can eat those!

    HEY!

College student here. I suppose if you actually FOLLOW the hot plate/microwave rule... if you can get ANY kind of kitchen access, making soups in advance, living on sandwiches, fruits, and veggies helps. If you blog, I'd love to follow it and cheer you on!
  • Bonniejo, that's why I've always refused to live on campus. I'd really rather make my own food, and also not live at school.. better for separating school with the rest of my life.

Anyway, I'm an English MA, so here I am introducing myself :)

I've actually been doing ok. I workout everynight but Saturday, so it's not too hard to eat only 1,600 calories. The cheeseburgers are about 400 cals, plus some veggies and thats lunch! Or a grilled chicken with provolone and bbq sauce, with a side salad. I just have to make sure I don't eat the yummy yummy alfredo! But when I have only 1,200 calories to work with, it gets really difficult. (today I went about 100 over, but I ate out too, so...)
