I was thinking about buying the shake weight (I know it is stupid but I found out about it through a stupid South Park episode!) and I was wondering if anyone has used it and if it really woks? I have a lot of arm fat and no muscle and I would like to slim my arms down and get some sort of muscle.... Please respond if you know anything about the product.

I would think you would be better off purchasing some resistance bands or basic dumbbells, gimmicky stuff is generally not worth the money and the shake weight reminds me of those useless fat bands from the 70's people would giggle in thinking it made them thinner (it did not).

You can also look at exercises like push ups which can help tone your arms and your back.

This page has some good arm exercises you can do with some simple dumbbells. Just remember to take it slow and focus on the movement (don't rush) when doing strength exercises.

I swear I don't mean to sound sarcastic when I say this (but seen the episode, too funny!), but I always think of the excersices I do for strength training as FUNCTIONAL exercises. Think carrying groceries, reaching, carry a baby, etc. Soooo... I'd stick with other exercises that will build muscles, and up your cardio. You really can't burn fat in one area as much as anyone tells you, your body doesn't distinguish your problem areas or no one would have problem areas! Up your cardio and generally burn more calories to burn more fat, and by increasing your muscle content in your arms at the same time, they will look leaner and toned while losing overall weight. Make sure you do exercises for the main muscle and the opposing muscle (think flex and contract with bending) so if you do your biceps, make sure you do your triceps; again if you do your chest, make sure you do your back, and same for the front and back of your shoulder. There are a lot of exercises you can do with or without weights, and at home for no cost. I'd spare yourself the money!!!

I'm not a fan of gimmicks, but if it gets you up off the sofa and moving around it will help. However, I would suggest that you DO NOT use it as a replacement for a real program.

i would say it's a crock. tricep dips and push ups are the go, use your own bodyweight, doesn't cost a thing, can do it infront of the tv.
