Can one at 20 kgs overweight expect to try and maintain that weight from the start to the end of a pregnancy? And how would one adjust calories to account for that?

You’ll need to speak with your doctor to see if that is an appropriate goal

    3rd check with your doctor.

Bottom line is it depends on activity level, and hormone balance.

Your doctor knows you better than some strangers on the internet.

    5Th vote for doctor's advice
But I can tell you that I did it with my pregnancy. You just have to focus on eating well (healthy) for both of you and exercising. Only big exercise I did was walking 1hour every day!

While I was pregnant and overweight, I was told not more than 20lbs. Your OB should have told you, if not, ask at your next visit. Generally (with a not high risk or complicated pregnancy) during the first trimester you don't need extra calories, the 2nd 200-300 and the 3rd about 500.

Definitely speak to your Dr about the appropriate weight management. The first trimester maintenance is a great goal though.

When I was pregnant, I was told to gain between 0-11 pounds (I was technically obese at 160 pounds). It’s possible, just make sure you’re making healthy choices and taking your prenatal vitamins.
