I'm more tired than normal and experiencing brain fog! My gosh I couldn't focus on my home work at all. It's been a week since I started keto diet and I'm already down 5 lbs! Which is great because this is the first time the scale moved in a very long time. I'm very excited! I guess my question is How soon do people normally enter ketosis?

Tired and brain fog are usually signs your body is missing something.4

Generally, that thing missing are electrolytes. OP, increase your sodium intake to 3 to 5k mg. As you decrease carbs, your deplete glycogen and water. Alomg with that, your reduce electrolyte levels. So foods high in sodium, potassium and magnesium should be your best friends.3 -

This. Brain fog, fatigue, headaches, muscle aches and stomach issues after significantly lowering carbs is a sign of an electrolyte imbalance - mainly sodium, possibly magnesium and potassium.
When you start LCHF, you need at least 3000-5000mg of sodium in most cases. There's 2300 mg of sodium in a teaspoon of table salt so that is roughly 2 teaspoons of salt each day. A couple of cups of boullion, a tsp of salt with water, salt tablets, and liberally salting your food will make a difference.
Brain fog and fatigue are normal signs of ketosis. In fact it is usually the opposite : steadier energy and better mental clarity.
It usually only takes a day or three to get into ketosis if you are under 50g of carbs a day. You are probably in ketosis.3 -
Takes anywhere from a few days to a few weeks depending on your body and what you eat. Here is a wonderful watch on the topic. (It goes over some of your symptoms and what to do about it)

The answer has already been given: Electrolytes. Specifically, sodium, magnesium and potassium. If you drink a few glasses of "salt water" you will likely be good. Gatorade and other 'sports drinks' could likely help you with this.
I am potentially interested in the Ketogenic Diet due to higher A1C value. Might I ask you some questions? Do not want to highjack this thread, though.0 -

Ask away! I might not be helpful because I'm still new at this and learning as I go.0 -

My carb intake are less than 20g/day. I'm having headaches too. And I'm hoping I'll start feeling the benefit of ketosis soon! I will add more salt in my food. Thank you!0 -

In a pinch you can look into things like ketoaid which is pretty much broth and more salt or use pickles/pickle juice.
Out of curiosity, which benefits are you looking to get?0 -
PsuLemon,
I read that with Ketosis, I will get more energy and mental focus. Also I just want to be able to say NO to sugar and junk food and have self-control over food. I was a big time carb eater before this. And it would be great if I can control my cravings for carbs/sugar too!0 -

I don't know if it is more energy, but it feels like steadier energy, to me anyways. No more hangry times or needs for afternoon naps.
For me, the mental clarity improvements occurred after about a month. It might have been sooner but I could not believe that I needed so much salt so I did not increase it for a couple of weeks. I finally ate a teaspoon of salt with water and felt better within hours... It's hard to get mental clarity when you are in the midst of brain fog.
You really do usually need more sodium than a bit more salt on your food. Consider boullion and salt water. "Keto-aid" is a good idea too. Many make it with those Miso squirt drink mixes.0 -

They are commonly touted with keto, and depending how you repsond to keto will determine if you can get the. I have never struggled with mental clarity or mental focus on a high carb diet, but i dont have IR or any medical conditions. The best thing to do is try it to see if it helps with cravings but definitely increase sodium.0 -
Remember - there is "in ketosis" and then there is "ketone adapted".......two different things. I believe that you want "ketone adapted".....1
