1,200 calories to lose 1 pound and 2 pounds a weeK?

I changed the setting to 1 pound a week from 2 pounds a week, why is it the same 1,200 calories a day or is the app not updating? Thank you!

    Because 1200 is the lowest default amount. To lose 2 Lbs per week would mean that you would have to have a maintenance number of 2200...doable if you're an active female...not so much if you're sedentary.

    1,200 for a 1 Lb rate of loss would then assume your maintenance is around 1,700...right in the wheel house for a sedentary female.

    Basically this is suggesting that you don't really have the capacity to lose 2 Lbs per week.

    Set it to maintain and see what number you get...

    anything under 1200 is insane, sometimes losing 2 pounds a week cant be an option if your calorie maintenance is super low

    keep in mind that losing 2 lbs/week is suggested only for people who have a LOT to lose. Think ~100 lbs.

    If your maintenance is that low, you're either not too far from goal weight, are short, are older, or all of the above.

    Be patient, eating sustainably, and it will come!

    At maintain weight, it shows a little above 1,600 calories but it is at 1,200 for either 1 lb or 2 lbs loss a week. I wanted to lower it from 2 lbs to 1 lb a week but it is the same calories 1,200 limit. Oh well. I am not lowering my caloric intake below 1,200 nor am I trying to rush the process. I thought something was wrong that the calories limit did not change. No biggie. I was not aware 1,200 is the default. Thanks.

    It's not the "default"...it's just the lowest it will go. If your maintenance is 1600 then it's going to hit 1200 because you would need a 500 calorie daily deficit to lose 1 Lb per week...1600-1200 = 400 calorie deficit...and the calculator won't go below 1200.

    It is also telling you that losing 1 lb per week isn't a realistic goal, because your calorie intake would be too low (1100) to meet this.

    Here's a chart with step down goals......

    Pound per week goals
    75+ lbs set to lose 2 lb range
    Between 40 - 75 lbs set to lose 1.5 lb range
    Between 25-40 lbs set to lose 1 lb range
    Between 15-25 lbs set to lose 1 -.50 lb range
    Less than 15 lbs set to lose 0.5 lbs range

    If your maintenance is 1600 calories / day, the odds of your goal being over 25 lbs aren't that likely.

    I didn't know to change my goal down when I got closer to my goal! Why do you need to adjust it?

    Say you start at 250 lbs, and your goal is 120 lbs. In the beginning, if you can tolerate it, a 1,000 calorie / day deficit is probably possible for a 2 lb / week loss. As you lose, you can't continue with a 1,000 calorie deficit, because your maintenance is now lower. So, adjustments as you go, make sense.

    So change your loss goal. How much more do you have to go? Usually most people who think they have to be at 1200 don't actually have to go that low. Why make the process miserable when it doesn't have to be?

    I just put in my weight, goal weight and to lose 1 lb a week, I am not active do to health conditions

    If you decide you still want to lose 1.5-2 lbs. week, add the extra calories in exercise and don't eat them all back.
