Well, lets see if this helps. I quit spoking 30 days ago and managed to put on 30 pounds (wish it was lost that fast). I still have the athletasism that I had in the Marines 4 months ago, but not the discipline. Here's to hoping that that the site helps me control the food and stay off the smokes.

I want to lose the weight, but I have a crutch. For 4 years I eat Albashas each Friday, combo plate and a tea with 4 pieces of pita. Does anyone know how much I have to run to work that off? I cant stop my Friday thing.

Welcome to the site! You'll find lots of support here.

Have you searched in the food for the things you're eating on Fridays? It would all depend on what's in the combo plate & how many calories it all totals to figure out how much effort you'd have to put into a run & how long you'd have to run to work it off.
  • Truth be told I am nervous about knowing. I figure I will get with the owner there at the resturant on Friday and see what he has as far as the calorie count. I am not new to the weight loss scene. I got out of the Marines recently; however, I have been out before and had reenlisted. To get back in, I had to lose 60 pounds and did that in 45 days. I lost 60 pounds and went from not being able to run a 1/2 mile, only able to do one pull up, and less than 20 crunches. My weight went from 257 to 197 and I ran 3 miles in 22 1/2 min, 15 pull ups and 100 crunches in 2 minutes (I stll never missed my Friday Albashas :) ).

What that showed me was with determination, sweat, and a considerable amount of pain in the mornings, we can do it. It just seems a little harder this time. I found MFP after 2 weeks of running, Adkins, and losing only 3 pounds.
  • I live in the Baton Rouge area as well!! I'm also a fan of Albasha's, but haven't been in a few years. They have a lot of healthy choices, so one way or another, you wouldn't have to give them up.
  • The one I eat at is 3 miles away, maybe I should run there and run back... Either I would lose the weight or be too tired to eat. Your in Denham, so you know how bad this is, its time for my morning run, 2 miles of interval (sprint/jog). I just went outside and its hot, but its the only break I get during the day to run.
  • Yes, I know all about it being too hot to run, lol!! I have a gym membership, so I'm gonna hit the treadmill after work today. I already did a few minutes of circuit training this morning before work to get my day started right

The humidity here has been horrible since all of the raining has stopped. I haven't ran in a while because of the weather here.

I'm sure you will figure out what you'll need to do to lose the weight & not give up your Friday usual. Hope you enjoyed your run!
  • I did my run and workout without passing out. I dont know what the heat index is but you can barely breathe. I also do a short run when I get home in the evening and I am guessing that will be worse. I couldnt do the treadmill. I get so bored and tired. At least on the road you see a change of scenary and feel the wind.
  • Lol, my gym has the treadmills with the TV attached, so that makes it bearable. And their spin bikes have an iphone dock, so I can have my music and movies while I work out on them.
  • I do listen to music when I run, but I listen to running cadence. Guess it the Marine in my but I run longer when I hear it. I alos started using this app Runkeeper. Its free and it helps when I hear the distance and the time. I tried the tv thing at the Y but I would stop exercising and concentrate on something they had. You should try cadence once. Its hard to stop running when you hear the chanting. Keeps you motivated.
