Fruit and sugar?

Hi all,

Lately I've been adding more fruits and veggies to my diet. But as I've been eating more fruit I've also been going over my daily allowance for sugar. Is this something to worry about or should I completely ignore it? Obviously an apple's sugar is different from a chocolate bar's sugar. I just hate seeing the red on my tracker.

The sugars aren't different actually. If you have a medical condition that makes it sensible to watch sugar, you'll have to watch all sugar sources. If you don't, there's no reason. Stay in your calories and make sure you meet your nutrients.

Remove sugar from your diary and track fiber (or just leave it blank). MFP's nutrition entries are notoriously wrong or incomplete, and don't necessarily differentiate between added sugar and inherent sugar.

Whenever possible, use the USDA information (add USDA to your search terms).

Just change your settings so you are viewing fiber, or give yourself a higher sugar allowance that will accomodate a daily goal with a lot of fruit. Your goals are in your control.

Sugar is the same to your body regardless of its source. Fruit and veggies obviously have the benefit of added minerals, vitamins and fiber - so in that way, they are the healthier choice compared to a chocolate bar.

There's no need to worry about going over your sugar goal unless it's negatively impacting your health or not allowing you to reach your protein/fat goals.

Ah I had no idea I could change the goals at the bottom of the tracker! I'm definitely switching over the sugar tracker to a fiber tracker. Thanks y'all!
