Joe said Optimum Nutrition, but whey? How do they taste? If I don't go with them, what should I look for or avoid?

*This is NOT for meal replacement. It's to satisfy afternoon hunger and make my protein goal, which is generally hard for me and I feel like I eat a lot of protein.

    Potentially of interest: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/taso42/view/whey-protein-101-120880

P.S., I currently use ON Natural Whey because it has no artificial sweeteners. Not that artificial sweeteners concern me all that much, but for something that I use Every Single Day, I would rather avoid them.

if its just protein you're after, then i recommend Diesel - it was a bit pricier but you get 27g/scoop which is 30g, thats 97% pure.
it has all the BCAA's you need

You cannot choose a protein based on any one elses opinions --- they will vary immensely.
I personally think Optimum and Gold Standard both taste horrible -- but another poster loves it. Everyone has different taste buds! I found that what you mix it with matters most....most of them taste horrible with just plain water...
If the smell bothers you, that's another issue.

    1. Get yourself a blender bottle (with a wire wisk) (this will help if you have smell issues too)
    2. Order samples -- there are tons of places you can do this
    3. Buy a jug from GNC or Vitamin Shoppe to try it because you can return them if you don't like it and get something else.
    4. Look for whey protein isolate -- not concentrate
    5. If you care of artificial sweeteners, buy one that doesn't have any...
    6. Assuming you're not doing this to GAIN weight, look for those that area 100-150calories a scoop, 20-30g protein a scoop and little to no sugar/carbs... this is very easy to find.

Since you can't post links here I can't really send you to sample sites.

I drink at least 1 or 2 protein shakes a day and love them.....

Everyone is different when it comes to whey protein powders.

Taste? Magnum Quattro or BSN Syntha-6
Price? Optimum Nutrition Gold or MyoFusion
Overall Quality? Any of them. Protein is protein. Some powders have more carbs and sugar, some are harder to mix and clump, some are slow digesting, some are faster, some have more protein per serving. It just varies completely.

When it boils down to it. Pick price and best tasting for the money. Protein is protein in your macros daily.

I use Beachbody protein powder. I add it to my Shakeology for breakfast after I work out. I was trying to find some comparisons for you, but I couldn't find any comparisons of any protein powder. what I know is that it has no artificial sugar and actually tastes good. I used to use EAS until I went to a seminar with Darin Olien, co-creator of Shakeology, who said this about the protein powders you can get at health food stores:

"There are 7 grades of whey protein. The tub of protein you can buy at GNC or where ever for 29.99 is one grade above LIVESTOCK FEED !!!" ~ Darin Olien co-creator of Shakeology. This comment was seconded by Dr Bill Wheeler, Chief Science Officer, Beachbody.

Can I tell you I was horrified? I wasn't surprised though because it really didn't feel good going down, either. In the interest of full disclosure, I'll tell you that I love the products so much I'm a Beachbody coach. Anyway, If you are interested in getting some, let me know.

I use EAS somethingorother whey protien. I get a HUGE bag of it at Costco. I mix it with water in a wide-mouthed bottle (I'll post a pic for you at that other place I see you) ... It's great on mornings that I don't have a lot of time to make breakfast, I grab a piece of fruit and mix up some protien with water. Also on weekends if I have a ginormous breakfast, I'll have protien shake with a small something that sounds good at the time for lunch: sometimes fruit, sometimes granola bar, sometimes a side salad.

I totally agree with this post. We must have been at the same presentation. I would really research whatever whey protein you decide to go with. I personally use the beachbody whey protein for both my morning and afternoon snack. I scoop with water and it is not too bad tasting at all, even my 3 year old will drink it. It costs me about $30 a month and I use it twice a day.

Yeah, this makes me a little hesitant too. And I'm kind of annoyed with Beachbody since I read in my Turbo Fire book that you shouldn't drink water (or anything) with your meal. That's pretty much bull**** and makes me lose faith in Beachbody (I still love Turbo Fire though).

Okay, I admit that I know very little about these grades of whey protien, etc. ... but what I will say is that whey extracted from milk during the cheese making process is used for all kinds of things, including fitness protien powders and livestock feed. The above statement is misleading, IMO, because in this case, livestock feed and fitness protien powders are coming from the same source, and are likely processed in the exact same way. The reason livestock are being fed whey protien is the same reason people consume it: compacted nutrients.

So I walked to the grocery store at lunch and picked up some premixed EAS Advantedge carb control. It doesn't taste bad!
