Hey all.. thanks for clicking. I know this is kind of a silly question but I'm wanting to buy a Fitbit/activity tracker and was wondering from those who have experience with them, what your opinions are. Any suggestions are appreciated and welcome

Well I have had the Blaze and now I have the Ionic. It depends on what you want it to do for you. The Ionic has alot of features like Wallet and a Starbucks app. I dont use them as of yet. If your just looking to track steps and exercises then I would say the Blaze or even a Charge 2.1

I like the One. I keep it attached to my bra, out of view, it won't track hand movement, and it tracks stairs/floors climbed.2

I have a Blaze and love it.1

I have the surge and I like it. It does all the normal Fitbit things; it counts steps, calories, floors, sleep and exercise. It's not as pretty as some of the other ones though. I've heard the ionic is neat too and that you can use it while swimming (dunno if that's true) but none of the others are water proof.1

I have a Blaze and it does everything I need it to do. FitBit has a pretty good compare product feature on their website: https://www.fitbit.com/store#products1

I️ have an Alta. I️ love it. They make an Alta with an hr now but I️ don’t have that. I️ like that I️ can change the straps from the athletic one that came with it to a leather band that I️ bought. This makes it less apparent as a fitness tracker so I️ can still have it on and go out. I️ also like that it gives me updates on my movement. It says you have — many steps til the 250 an hour goal. Or it says, time to move or you did it and it alarms when I’ve hit my step goal. Lastly, I️ like that texts and phone calls from my phone come through so I️ can see who it is and decide if it’s worth going to look at the entire text or answer the phone.
Downside is that it doesn’t seem to be very accurate on elliptical tracking and it annoys me that it looks like I️ did less. I’ve reset it and it comes closer but then it seems to lose ground over time.
As for the Community, I️ haven’t had as much motivation from the community and it may simply be the Community I️ keep but I️ simply can’t compete with people who walk 20k per day so I️ don’t like feeling like a loser when I️ got my 10k steps in along with a 30 minute workout of strength and or martial arts that done translate well on the Alta.2 -
So I’m not sure why there are so many odd pound signs and such in my post. Sorry! On my iPhone.3

It would really depend on how much you want to spend and what extras you are looking for. If you are looking for a deal, the charge 2 is going to be on sale at Costco November 24th-27th for $99.99: https://www.theblackfriday.com/costco-blackfriday.shtml?page=24

I had the Charge HR and loved it. I bought the Alta HR when it came out, but it's way over estimating my calories. I did a lot of research and it seems to be a common problem with this model. I turned off the HR monitor and it seems to be more accurate now, but I'm not getting 1/2 the features I wanted.
I miss my old Charge HR. I honestly wouldn't recommend the Alta HR based on my experience.3 -

I second checking out their page. There may be features that someone loves that you don’t feel the need for.1 -
Love my blaze!1

Thank y'all so much for your replies! It really means a lot. I have seen a couple miscellaneous posts talking about fitness trackers on here and it really got me interested in purchasing one. But it's so nice to hear the feedback first hand from all of you who have one and what you like and dislike about particular models.1

Any other input?0

Love my ONE but they're not made any more. ZIP is great too. Do you want an unobtrusive clip or something that you have to wear on your wrist ALL the time for it to be useful? What kind of info do you want from it?
I also encourage you to do an MFP search for "Fitbit" or "fitness tracker" and read the input in dozens of other threads on this site.1 -
Ionic: most features. smart watch features. storage. most waterproof after Flex 2. Higher priced. Largest.
Charge 2 HR: has all tracker watch features including 'floors' (an altimeter). Less expensive and smaller than Ionic. Same price but physically larger than Alta HR. Splash proof.
Alta HR: as far as I can tell also has all of the tracker watch features except for floors. Same price but slimmer than the charge 2 HR. Splash proof.
Flex 2: no hr. no screen. no floors. waterproof. less expensive.
One. avoids hand movement issues. fairly small. easy for me to lose. less expensive (has floors)
zip. avoids hand movement issues. fairly small. easy for me to lose. least expensive (no floors)
AFAIK the Ionic introduces a new color of LED and would be expected to be (even) more accurate when it comes to heart rate.
Larger devices tend to make it easier to improve light isolation and LED contact with the skin and thus improve HR measurement.
Slimmer devices meet consumer styling considerations that larger devices do not.
Now YOU get to decide what is important to YOU for a device you will probably wear 24/7 except for when you're charging it while you shower.
*Of course garmin/polar/adidas+mio/ apple/samsung/microsoft/ have their own sets of devices too. A lot of the garmin ones offer good price performance ratios and information. Garmin is still more aimed to "more serious" athletic endeavours. it is an open question whether Fitbit or Garmin or ? does a better job of capturing whole day calories. I consider Fitbit to be fairly accurate and in general I believe that Garmin is less generous with calories than Fitbit.2 -
Thanks so much @PAV8888 this was a really useful reply!! I appreciate the feedback. I'll have to start narrowing down my options with all these posts. Any other experience/feedback on any devices is also welcome!0

I'll add one thing; only the ionic and the flex 2 can be usef for swimming. I like slim fitbits I use the Alta for everyday, and switch to a flex 2 for swimming. You can have multiple devices all connected to the got bit app (as long as they are different models).2

I love my flex 2!2

I've had a charge hr, charge 2 and blaze and definitely prefer the charge 2. I like the blaze but it was expensive and so huge it covered my entire wrist. I'm also a huge clutz so I constantly worried about damaging the touch screen. The charge hr was good but it crapped out within 2 years (the infamous band bubbling and charging issues), and the bands were not pretty nor were they removable/interchangeable so I couldn't wear it to more formal events. That sucked cause you burn a lot of calories dancing!
The charge 2 literally solved every issue I had with the other watches. The watch is reasonably priced, it doesn't cover my entire wrist, it doesnt have a touchscreen so I can bang it up with little worry. The bands are removable and you can buy additional bands for 20$ on amazon that are really fashionable. Now I keep the watch on wherever
I go. Overall I'm 100% pleased!1 -
Thanks so much for the reply @bosswitch ! I have heard about the charge HRs bands bubbling- but sounds like the Charge 2 is a way better model.1

I started off with the fitbit zip, then went to the Alta (non HR), and now I'm settled on the Charge 2 and that's where I'm staying! No more upgrades lol
I am pleased with all 3, never had any issues with any of them.
Oh and be aware that this may happen to you They can be quite addictive...

The charge 2 would definitely be my recommendation. Whatever Fitbit you decide on, feel free to add me as a friend!

I had a 1st generation flex for three years and was happy with it, then it stopped working and I got a flex 2. It provides all the functionality I need (I walk a lot and I really just need a step counter) and it has the additional advantage of being slimline and therefore easy to disguise as a piece of jewellery - I got a nice case for it, which I'm happy to wear.2

Another vote for Charge 2, I love mine.
