Losing motivation on day 1?!

Hi! New to posting here but not new to mfp. My dilemma is that at the first pang of hunger that i encounter I just want to throw in the towel and eat whatever I want. I just try to convince myself that I'm happy being chunky and that i love food and that's just the way it's going to be. Of course I'm not happy with being overweight but I also like to eat! Anyone feel like it's just not worth all the trouble of losing weight as soon as they get hungry and what do you do about it?!

What do you want more? The freedom to eat as much as you like of whatever you want, or to lose weight/change your physique?
I never managed to achieve my physique goals until they became more important than needing to satisfy myself with food all the time.
Whats wrong with feeling hungry? Do you think you need to feel full/satisfied all of the time? That's partly how I got myself in a position to lose weight. You might be making food choices that don't satiate you very well, or you could just need to learn to feel OK with a bit of hunger.
I find planning and preparing meals in advance helps. I know how much I have to eat, and roughly when I'm going to eat each meal. I know I've filled my calories with lots of tasty, mostly nutritious food. I feel hungry sometimes, but I just wait it out until the next meal time.5 -
Could you try just logging for a week without making any changes? Then you can look at your diet and see where it would be easiest to make changes.8

^^^ That. You may find after a couple weeks logging that there are some things that can easily be substituted and help keep you feeling full.
Or go on a meditation retreat where they only feed you breakfast and lunch. You'll learn that the hunger pangs are survivable.3 -
The past year or so I have had that mindset. I slowly gained back weight i had lost over the past few years and was generally okay with it until i saw pictures of myself where it appeared I was changing; Face broken out, or looking puffy, noticeable weight in my face and arms and stomach that i had become comfortable with.
So I started working out regularly again and realized i had lost so much endurance and conditioning of my body. I could still knock out a workout but i was so exhausted and out of breath and spend 3 days recovering. At that point, i really knew i had let myself go. I am at the beginning of my journey once again. I know where this path leads and i am staying the course. Fitter me is a happier me.
Think about the road you are on. You can achieve weight loss bc our bodies are designed to metabolize nutrients. Tell your body its time to kick,into gear and start using its reserved energy storage to fuel your journey to your future self. After just a few weeks of making good choices for yourself, you may be surprised at how you feel. Both mentally and physically. How do you know how much you will achieve if you dont find out?

If you are not happy with being overweight, they it is totally worth all the trouble. Start slow and steady. Don't try to change everything at one time. Make little changes that are easy, simple changes. Find ways to make substitutions for 'better' calories.
Personally, I love food. I have zero issues with eating foods. But, I have found some solutions in substitutions where I can eat more of something else and feel more satisfied about it. If I'm hungry, I'll find some protein to snack on and that takes care of the cravings.
Consider the alternative to not continuing on this journey... I was once like you. "Chunky" ran in my family. I was destined to be the same. Diabetes runs rampant on both sides of my family. Both my parents died from complications to diabetes. I have now been diagnosed as diabetic. So far, I am not on medications and actually from my last physical in August - when I was diagnosed - I am in perfect health. Why is that? Because I stepped away from the idea that I was destined to be 'chunky' the rest of my life and started doing something about it.
I am expecting to see even better numbers this coming week when my follow-up HgA1C test is done. I've taken responsibility for what I need to do to make life work for me - to make FOOD work for ME. Not the other way around. You can have your cake and eat it too... you just need to do the work. It doesn't happen over night. Heck, it doesn't happen over a month. It took time to get there and it will take time to get out of there.
It isn't easy. But, it isn't hard either. It takes dedication and perseverance. It takes time and it takes energy and a little work on your part. If you don't like being overweight, you take that responsibility now and put your mind into the losing weight. You set a course, a smart, logical course and set sail. You stay that course, no matter what.1 -
Are you trying to undereat - eat below the target MFP gave you? Don't do that. If you feel hungry eating an appropriate amount of food/calories, and your meals are pretty balanced/nutritious, just don't worry about "hunger pangs". What you are experiencing is your digestion, and it's perfectly normal and healthy. You won't die, you won't get ill, you can wait for the next meal. If you plan meals you look forward to, it's easier to wait.2

Are they really hunger pains or are they cravings? I eat decently but I rarely actually feel hungry. Keep the crappy snack foods out of the house and have healthy choices easy to get at. I buy bags of carrot sticks that are right at the front of the fridge. If I actually feel that hunger between meals I try to go with that.1

I am eating all of my allowed calories, I definitely couldn't make it if I didn't! Lol! I think part of my issue is that I'm just used to eating so much, I have to let my body adjust to eating less and that takes time. About 10 years ago, I lost around 50 lbs, it took a LONG time and I stalled out for a long time, however I have consistently kept off that 50lbs and did that in a healthy way. About 5 years ago, I lost an extra 40 lbs but I did that in a span of 6 months and basically starved myself and worked out for at least 2 hours a day. After I burned myself out on that after about 8 months, I put 40 lbs back on and have been hovering around 200 lbs since then. Now anytime I try to start back on a diet, which is frequently, I stop within a few weeks and have a huge binge and give up. I know how to eat healthy and work out, in a healthy way, and I know that I absolutely feel better when I do, but for some reason I just can't keep the motivation going for the long term anymore. I just have to remember that I just want to feel better physically and the rest will fall into place. Thank you for all your advice. Also, some have mentioned to cut food groups out of my diet but that's just not for me! I would cave so much faster if I didn't have access to all food, everything in moderation.0

Don't deprive yourself of any foods unless for medical reasons. Just eat proper or smaller portions of them. Helps cut the binging out. Filling up on vegetables has helped me a lot.2

I'm with you! I'm feeling cravings or hunger pangs too, and I never really did on previous rounds. I weigh more this go around than I ever did before, and am determined to change how I go. Feel free to add me!1

How many lbs. are you supposed to lose per week? Can you reduce that to 1 lb. (Or .5 ) so that you can eat more? Another option is add more exercise so you can eat more. When I'm having true hunger I change my goal and eat more for a couple of weeks then try the lower calorie goal again.0
