Trying to overcome depression through weight loss

Hey.
My name is Sanchit. I'm 22. I'm from India. I weigh close to 190 pounds.
I work a desk job 8 to 6 straight outta college. And....I'm depressed. Yup. That's it. Took a lot of effort to accept the fact, but I guess it is what it is.
So I'll try and lose close to 20 pounds this month. I heard the body is the reflection of the mind. So I'll start with some calorie count food habits, exercising and drinking lots of water.
Will try not to give up. And I hope you all dont either.

So if there's anybody who's been going through the same state of mind and would love to vent out and discuss how you're gonna go about it and also keep us updated from time to time of your tracking, I'm all ears.

At your size losing 20 lbs in just over 3 weeks is highly unsafe. Please DO NOT try to do this. It will not help your mental state and in fact will likely cause more unhappiness.

Losing weight won't make you happy. And losing 20 pounds in one month is not healthy, sustainable, or a realistic goal. However, your thinking is headed in the right place. Healthy eating and exercise habits will make you feel better. I thrive on challenge and happen to work a routine job, so I get the idea of looking elsewhere for happiness. I do depend on my healthy goals to keep life challenging and fun.

After about 3 days of aerobic exercise, I get into a "zone" where I feel better and can cope better. That better feeling usually stays in place until I break from working out for a few days.

Setting the goal of losing 4 pounds in one month would be significant and rewarding. In 2 months you'd be down about one clothing size.

Include some exercise, like walking more, or bicycing....anything really. I suffer from anxiety and depression more often than not, but every since rejoining here, and moving more, I have had maybe one episode of anxiety. I sleep better too now that I'm exercising. I sit all day at my desk too, but I do try to walk during lunchtime. Hope something works for you.

I agree, trying to lose that amount of weight is unrealistic, and will put you under too much pressure which you don't need when already depressed, believe me i've been there many times, just eat healthy food , exercise when able to and most important - rest your mind and body! It's all about finding a balance in your life, good luck!

    This.

Plus take it from me...weight loss is not a cure for depression. If you're truly suffering, then you should speak with your doctor about what to do next.
