I weigh 243...workout 2-3 hours 6 days a week... my calorie goal is 1620...not including exercise calories...I eat around 1400 cals a day and I'm not loosing. My friend who works out 1 hour a day is loosing more than me and she eats fun stuff. Please help. Tonight I ate out of frustration (still managed to stay around 1400, but I feel like crap) but usually I try to stay between 1200 & 1400.
Please tell me how to loose weight.

Don't cry, have you been taking your measurments because even if the scales is not moving you may be losing inches? And also did you read about eating your exercise calories you may not be eating enough. Also how are you doing on your sodium and carbs it may be easier to help you if you open your diary. But be patient it'll come off!!!0

If your calorie goal is 1600 how come you're not eating 1600?0

What is your workout? What are you eating? I'm sorry you haven't started seeing the progress you want yet but by looking at your signature you've already lost 2 lbs in less than a week and a half. That's great0

you might not be eating enough.....good luck0

It sounds like you aren't eating enough. Your body needs a certain number of calories for normal everyday fuel plus extra for fuel to work out. Try eating more protein and more calories (not junk food calories) and see if that works.0

Without more info, my gut reaction is you're not eating enough calories. Read this for some great info:

Honestly it sounds to me like your not eating enough. I tried eating too little and I didn't lose anything until I upped my calories a bit. Sounds counter productive I know but if your starving yourself you wont lose. You need to fuel your body to support that kind of exercise. Maybe open your food journal so we can have a look?0
-
You need to eat ALL of the daily calories and your ex-calories too. Your body thinks it starving so it 's holding on to the pounds . I had the same problem ... hope this helps you .0

It sounds like you are ot eating enough! I'm not one to swear you need to eat your exrcise calories ( I didnt and it didnt really affect me at all) but I think you shoudl atleast try to eat your minimum amount. Why not give it a try for a couple of weeks and see if that helps. Dont compare yourself to your friend, everyone is different. Is she built the same as you (height/weight)?0

totally agree... and youre working out too much... your net needs to be 1600...if you dont eat enough your body will hang onto what it gets...0 -
When you workout are you doing both strength training and cardio? If you're doing strength training then you may be building muscle which takes up less space than fat. You may want to start taking measurements. Even if your weight loss is technically slower than you want it to be if the inches are coming off then you're doing okay.0
-
How frustrating that has to be for you. But remember we are all different. Your friend maybe burning those calories way quicker than you. I knew someone who had to eat a lot everyday or she would lose too much weight. Gee, what a problem! Stick with what you're doing but maybe change things up a bit. Keep your body guessing with workouts and food. Just don't give up. You will see a difference soon. Hang in there!!0

Eat your 1620 and hang in there, the first few weeks are always the hardest!0

I don't know that much about it all (still figuring it out myself) but it seems to me you're not eating enough. I know, I know, it's super counter-intuitive. There are tons of posts on here that talk about it. If you don't eat enough, your body will go into starvation mode (thinking that food source is scarce) and it will turn what you eat into a long lasting source of energy (FAT) and burn a quicker source of energy (muscle). Have you calculated your BMR?0

I cannot see your diary but if you are working out 2-3 hours a day and are only eatting 1200-1400 I would say you are not eatting enough.
Are you sure you are getting enough water? Based on your weight you should be getting around 16 cups per day.
(Take your weight/2= total ozs needed) divide that number by 2 and that gives you how much you need!
I know we are all different but when I was stuck at 210 was when I found MFP......when I started eatting the 1200 plus 30% of my exercise calories I started to lose about 2 pounds per week. When I hit a plateau again at 180 pounds I started eatting 50% of my exercise calories and now I am down to 162. Your body needs the fuel.
Again we are all different, for me getting additional water, increasing my protein, and intake.....I started to lose.....and continue to lose......I don't eat any diet foods really.....I eat normal stuff and just portion it out.....
3 meals a day and snacks in between......
Hope that helps...again I am not an expert and don't claim to be, as we are all different!!!!
Best of Luck and don't give up!!!!!!0 -
Like they said, believe it or not, you need to eat more! Check out this calorie calculator:
http://www.healthyweightforum.org/eng/calculators/calories-required/
I'm not sure how tall you are, but I used your weight and a height of 5'7 and said you were moderately active and it said you should be eating about 1900 calories to lose a pound and a half per week...0 -
it totally stinks when you try and try and don't feel like anything is working. eating what you want out of frustration is ok every once in a while but get back into thinking you can do this!! i wish the weight would fall off easily but it sure doesn't!!
good luck and keep on trying.0 -

I agree. (((buttahbaby))) Sorry about the dbl post. 1st time I've quoted. Hang in there and keep on keeping on!!0 -
If your calorie goal is 1600 how come you're not eating 1600?
When you work out hard you have to refuel your body. I would say make sure you are eating the right foods and enough of them. Eat your net calorie goal each day and that should help you out! If you want me to look at your diary I would gladly do it! Don't get too hard on yourself!! ~Corina0 -
I have too many hints and tricks to help. I think the problem maybe that you are not getting your NET calories close to or equal to 1400.
Net calories are the calories you consumed AFTER your work out. This means say your goal is 1400. You eat 1400. You work out and burn off 450. This means your NET calories is 950. Way too little. The human body needs at least 1200 to work properly. Your body has been thorwn into starvation mode. Which means your body is storing the food as fat and not burnign it off. Hope this helps.
Here's a link to my blog: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/woja9640 where you can find recipes and hints.0 -
Go ahead and cry then get up tomorrow and eat more calories for an entire week. I think you will be happy
At the end of that week.0 -
Try and eat about 1400 a day and then slowly work your way down to 1200 a day. Thats about how much I eat and I lose about a pound a week. You need to get in some exercise. Go work out with your friend or just go for about a 30 min walk a day. You need about 30 mins of exercise each day. Drink lots of water as well. About 6-8 cups a day. Stay away from sodas and coffee. Make sure you're not just paying attention to your calorie intake but everything else as well. Cut down on sodium and sugar. Those are killers. Don't deprive yourself of foods you want. Eat what you want just in moderation. I find myself able to eat whatever I like and stay under my calorie goal as long as I only eat the serving size. Don't cry and don't give up. You can do this!0

I started here at 242 and can tell you from experience you NEED to eat all your calories. You should be eating back exercise calories as well but at the very minimum if you get 1600 calories before exercise EAT THEM. Then if you work out and burn 400 more, you should eat some/most of those. You WILL lose weight that way.
One year and 71lbs later I can tell you that I still eat almost all my exercise calories back and haven't hit a single plateau.0 -
Sorry to hear about your frustrations but I would suggest increasing your calories. My starting weight was 270 and I'm currently at 251. I was eating 1500 cals a day and my weight was going down, quickly at first but then very slowly. One day a trainer at my gym told me to up my calories to 2000 (apparently someone my weight and height burns that much naturally and it's very important to eat the calories you burn). Well, I was a tad nervous about doing this so I made a deal with her and increased my calories to 1970 (which on here is requesting a 1 1/2 pound loss per week) since then I lost ten pounds rather quickly and am currently eating 1910. Plus I always make sure to have some extra calories in the form of a good protein shake after a workout. In conclusion, I would take the 1620 suggestion and see how that works. Hope this helps, good luck!0

I agree, you may be actually eating to few calories; and maybe too many cabs and sodium. Also, do you take any medications? As many people know meds definitely help weight gain, but they often get in the way of loosing weight as well. I have a dear friend who weighs similar to you, and works out just as much as you say you do...but she just doesnt loose weight as easily as others. I understand through her, what you must be feeling, and I am sorry. I think as long as working out and eating right makes you feel good, then loosing weight it merely just an extra bonus.0

I agree with the not eating enough. Also how often are you eating? There is a huge difference in eating 5 to 6 small meals throughout the day and just consuming your calories in 2 or 3 sittings. Also water, water, water!!! If you get bored of plain water throw some citrus in such as lemons, limes, or orange slices.0
-
I agree with everyone else....your 1620 allowance already includes a deficit so if you are exercising a lot on top of that you are in severe deficit. You need to eat at LEAST the 1620 plus some exercise cals depending on what you are doing. What do you do for 2-3 hours a day in your workout?0
-
Wow, now I know Im going to cry ;0) .... your support is AWESOME!!! Thank you, Thank you, I just get frustrated when I bust my butt and don't see the results. But you guys just gave me a big extra boost. I so needed this tonight. Thanks for letting me vent. Tomorrow will be a better day.0

Make sure that you are eating all your calories, even at least 75% of your exercise calories. Take your measurements....arms, hips, chest, stomach, legs. I weigh 186 and my net calories are 1200 but with exercise calories added in I usually eat 1600-1700 calories a day. And I don't always eat healthy stuff either. I'm not sure what kind of exercise you are doing but you could be gaining muscle and that might be why you aren't seeing a big weight loss on the scale! Just be patient you will start to see results.0
