Flying 160--Unless you are a couple of hundred pounds overweight to begin with, that's not a realistic expectation.

You have 38 days left (and food holiday Thanksgiving is coming up if you are in the US). An aggressive average loss of 0.4 lbs/day will only get you 15 lbs in that time-span.

Some people lose a lot of water in their first week or two--8 or 10 lbs. So lets be optimistic and suppose you lose 10 lbs in 14 days because of this initial dieting effect, which is more a matter of the luck of your biology than of anything you can control. You'd have 24 days left, if you could maintain about 0.4 lbs/day on average, you could only lose 9.6 lbs in those days--not quite enough to lose 20 lbs.

And this could only happen if your diet compliance and results are absolutely perfect.

In this short a time, skin probably wouldn't be a problem, but the other hazard of fast weight loss is a higher risk of loose skin (which can be a problem for some people even with slow weight loss--again a matter of genetic luck more than anything a person can control).

A goal of 10 lbs would be more realistic. Why set yourself up to fail at losing 20 lbs in a crash diet when you can set yourself up to succeed at losing 10 lbs on a reasonable, sustainable lifestyle change? (10 lbs is about 1.75 lbs/week or 0.25 lbs/day)

Yo. Since I'm joining you late, I want to lose only 10 lbs by Christmas. Wish me luck, diligence, and success.

start weight 243.2 lbs on Nov 15

goal is < 233.2 lbs on Dec 25

I hurt my feet badly and have very limited ability to exercise, so this is going to be quite a trick. But since I've been completely off-diet for months and am one of those who typically loses a lot of water in the first 2 weeks, I'm really expecting an uneven rate:

    about 6 to 8 lbs by Nov 30 (diet-starting water-whoosh)

the remainder at a rate of around 1 lb/week during December.

    LAT-1963:
    Thank you for your insight.
If I can get to 10 pounds, I'll still be overjoyed.

Hey, Salvador, read my posts just before yours. Your goal is pretty aggressive (even for a guy). 210 might be a more attainable choice. Not that I'm the example of success (I keep relapsing), but I find it easier to persevere long-term if I meet easy goals than if I strive for and fail to meet hard ones. YMMV.

I started this challenge late--on Nov 15, at 243.2 lbs
    It's now Nov. 20 and I weigh 240.3 lbs.

    So that's 2.9 lbs in 5 days--0.58 lbs/day or 4 lbs/week (!)

I see this as evidence of the water-whoosh that I've experienced before when I've started dieting after a prolonged period of food-carelessness. Still, it's nice to see the immediate big motion in the scale even though I know this quick-loss phase won't last.

My daily calorie targets are currently set at 500 cals below 'maintenance' for my current overweight state. The past couple of days I've gone over target, but not by the full 500 calories. So I hope I still continue to lose weight & meet my sub-goal of 6-8 lbs by Nov 30, with the final goal of 10 lbs (<233.2 lbs) by Dec 25.

I *intend* to blow through my targets with reckless abandon at Thanksgiving dinner, so that's another factor that could throw me off goal.

    2.9 lbs down, 7.1 lbs to go. 35 days remain. That's an average of 0.2 lbs/day or 1.4 lbs/week.

But I'm expecting something more like ~4 lbs for this first week, 2-4 lbs for the second week (probably 2 lbs, because of Thanksgiving), and ~1 lb/week (~0.14 lbs/day) thereafter.

So I just got back to the fitness app. I’m going to go to it though I have a lot of weight on me so 20 by Christmas doesn’t sound too out of reach for me to be honest.

    November 20 351.8
    Goal for December 25th 331.8
Will update weekly as I progress thank you all for giving me a challenge.
