My goal is to start to diet and workout again. I'm at 214 pounds (the most I have ever weighed) I'm going to try to lose around 35 pounds. I'm not getting any younger at 46 years old and now is the time that I gut up and make this change in my life.

Welcome Rich and Alaskanlocal! MFP is a great tool to help you get on track. Make sure you "check-in" and log your foods daily so you know what you are working with. Much of the database is wrong, just so you know. You need to check the nutrients and do your own research on how many calories are in your food. If a food in the database has a green check mark next to it, chances are pretty good that it's right. But still double check.

Also, make sure you know the amount of food you're eating. Don't eyeball it and say, "ok, that looks like a cup." Best to get a food scale and set it to grams and really know what you are consuming. Too many times people think they are eating at a deficit, when actually they are eating more. I was definitely guilty of that!

I've read to eat back your calories when you work out, only eat back a partial amount, and don't eat back any. I don't exercise, so I can't give you advice on that. Just play around with that and see what works for you.

Feel free to add me as a friend!
