Diuretics, good, bad, which one...

I have heard that diuretics can help you shed water weight quickly. Do any of you out there use them and do they work? Which one do you use?
Thanks.
Thanks.

If you have a medical reason to need diuretics you need to speak to a doctor.
Other than that, focus on fat loss not water weight.21 -
Unnecessary unless you have a vascular or cardiac problem. Drink water. Lower dietary sodium. Move more. Have patience.7

Why would you need to shed water weight quickly?
Typically when one has water weight, it's for a reason. Unless my doctor was concerned and recommended something, I don't think I'd want to force myself to get rid of it.8 -
TOM? I use Diurex if I'm feeling particularly bloated around that time. Thankfully it's not every month but just when non-routine food intake or activities sync up with my TOM - it can get very uncomfortable. They're pretty cheap too, like $10 for ~50ct.7

Well, to be clear, I am going on vacation next week and wearing a bathing suit. I was thinking that shedding some water weight would help.15

So you want to intentionally dehydrate yourself and then go hang out on a hot beach? Not a good plan.26 -

Help what? Buy a bikini you like, that fits... job done.
If you're so bothered that a couple of pounds will make all the difference then go low carb between then and now.7 -

Probably not. If anything a few pounds but not much from the abdominal area. Just enjoy your vacation. No need to mess it up with medications.4 -

No one here is going to recommend using them for vanity reasons, of course... You're not going to physically see a difference anyway. Sorry hon, just buy an awesome new bikini and rock it anyway!2 -

The only person who'd notice if you've dropped water weight or not is you. So why bother? Go enjoy your vacation, there's no point in worrying over a pound or two of water weight.3 -

I'm far from the angel of health... but even I think this sounds like a bad idea.
You'd probably be better off cutting out carbs and sodium for a few days before your trip, and for the duration of the trip.
Actually, you'd probably be best off buying a suit/clothes that fit you well and compliment your body/shape than either of those other options.8 -

I have been given a thiazide diuretic in the past to help lowering high blood pressure. Main side effects I got that may have been related to its use were gout attacks and atrial fibrillation, which I've been dealing with for 17 years. These problems may or may not have been related to the thiazide, but diuretics are serious drugs. Don't do it - it's not worth whatever small result you may get from it. Plus, any solution that combines "weight loss" and "quick (especially next week)" is by definition a bad idea.5

Avoid excessively salty food and drink plenty of water leading up to the trip so you won't be bloated. Anything beyond that isn't likely to be noticeable to anyone or change how your bikini fits.4

Enjoy your vacation. Nobody cares about how anyone else looks. A few pounds dropped in water weight is hardly visible anyway. Unless you're walking around with your weight stenciled on your forehead, again no one cares.

This is the pure truth right there. If you gain 2lbs, nobody knows. If you eat cake for lunch, nobody knows. If you lose 2lbs, nobody knows.
I am far from a magazine model. At 160lbs with a ton of cellulite and a saggy belly from 3 very large babies, I love the beach! And there is always someone there who is larger than me, smaller than me, has perkier boobs than me, or walks around with their bottoms full of sand and wedged up into neverland all week long. Nobody cares. Like, at all! Except for the guy who wears tiny speedos with questionable elastic integrity. We ALL care about that.
I am headed to New Zealand in 2 months. To hang out in my bikini with friends. My food and workout plan has not changed. What has changed? I will exfoliate more often, stay on top of my epilating for leg hair, and a week or so before my plane flys out I will buy some good self tanner.
Have fun, stop stressing, enjoy your vacay!!19 -
I used to take them like crazy like up to 6-8 a day but guess what the irony is.... I forgot to buy them for awhile and that’s when I lost weight!! I read in a Diet book Niacin flushes your body of unwanted water weight, because I do know about water weight! I eat chips and my fingers are like sausages the next day....lol12

Further to this. I try to drink as much water as is reasonable without getting up every five minutes on the flight. Then when I get off. Helps the plane swole.
But yeah, I wore short shorts earlier this year cellulite and lumpy thighs all out. There were women with far more extensive cellulite than me. I think people were more blinded by how blue-white I am. And agreeing with keeping on top of body grooming just before, well moisturised bodies look 5000 times better.2 -

Does your swimsuit not fit? Buy a new one instead of trying to change your body in a week.
Watch your sodium intake and carb intake if you retain water. Don't do extreme or weird things.
Enjoy your vacation and don't worry about it.3 -
Thank you all. Very good and helpful advice.3

Except it won't help at all. At least, not unless you plan on not consuming any carbs and/or keep sodium intake low. Which, I'd be willing to bet that on vacation, you'll be consuming plenty of both. As soon as you do, that water weight will come rushing back - and a decent chance at least a little more than you lost beforehand.2 -

Don't use them. Get walking and stay within your calories and keep to a low sodium intake.0
