Hey Everyone,

I need to have a bit of a rant as i went to the doctors tuesday as i needed to get some more of my contraceptive pill and have been slightly annoyed ever since (hence coming back on MFP after months) Every time i go he checks my blood pressure and weight.
He told me that i need to watch my weight and i explained that ive been trying to do something about it but nothing seems to be shifting and he didnt help me at all he suggested a few things and when i said i had done them he just kind of looked at me like "i dont believe you"

I know i can only do it for myself but i felt totally unsupported by him, i would have thought it would have had more advice than what he said.

Also he weighed me with all my clothes (and pretty heavy trainers on) and it wasn't long after lunch. I would have prefered to have a truer reading maybe in underwear and in the morning because my weight fluctuates (like most) at different parts of the day.

Anyway rant over hehe. Hope everyone is ok.

He seems like a *kitten*. However, if my dr wanted to get down to my underwear to weigh me, I'd be calling the cops lol.

A lot of doctors, especially male doctors, think women are stupid. I've seen it time and time again. Don't let it bother you too much. He was being a *kitten*. Also remember that a lot of doctors know little to nothing about weight loss and nutrition. They have some general ideas, but they often can't help when a patient is having a hard time losing, and that's exacerbated by the fact that they don't always believe you when you tell them how hard you're trying.

You keep working at it, and trying new things until you find a solution to shift that weight. :)

Your weight is about 2-3 pounds different with clothes on, not enough to make a difference in your health. He is looking at the total picture.

My doctor for years gave me that look, and he was right! When I finally buckled down and logged food, at lighter at night, stopped the sugar, ATE my exercise calories (because I exercised finally!! LOL) I started to slowly lose weight.

When I went back 10 pounds down, cholesteral lower, BP lower.........my doctor looked like this

I swear in 30 years I have never seen him look this way!

He is human, and he knows time and time again he repeats himself to his patients. Most of us do not listen. My dr is fit and lean and he has to be 60 although he doesnt look it. He is a great example for me to get fit and take care of this body.

Back to the point..............lose 10 pounds and go back!! I betcha a dollar his attitude will be different. I really think they get so tired of talkiing and not being heard (not that YOU did that mind you, I am talking about 100s of patients) that they kinda give up.

Good luck on your road to better health. I know you can do this!!

  • Doctors are awful! I started rapidly gaining weight last year for no apparent reason. Joined the gym and went for an hour every day, for six weeks. That managed to maintain my weight but I couldn't lose any. I kept going to the doctors every few months and I kept saying something wasn't right and they kept talking to me like I was some fat, compulsive over-eater who never left the sofa.

EVENTUALLY I got a new doctor and she ran blood tests. Turns out I had a B12 deficiency and lower than normal thyroid function.

Some doctors are just twats... I guess it's easy for them to sit there and assume that people are overweight because they're lazy :(

Thanks for that koannasaurusrex thats exactly how i feel i've been treated!

I will wait and really push myself to lose weight, im doing a food diary so i will show them to prove it and demand tests if i have no luck losing weight soon.

Thats the thing i dont eat unhealthy foods alot, i exercise and i still dont lose just proves you dont have to be lazy and eat loads of rubbish to have a weight problem
