You look great. I do 16:8 IF and stopped counting calories. Just eat what I like until I feel satisfied. I wanted to fight my snacking habits that caused weight loss stall. l hoped to lose fat, not muscle this way. So far very happy with my progress.2

Great job ! IF'er here, I follow 19/5. Dropped 35 lbs in 9 weeks. Have a great one.1

Well done to the OP. Massive achievement and one that will inspire me knowing that IF works
I have just started IF , I have watched many videos and read a couple of books. It makes sense to me. 16/8 is really easy to do. The only issue I have is when I switch to night shift ( 12hrs ) Im awake for 24+ hrs the 1st night. Therefore Im not sleeping during the fasting. Since Ive just started IF I will work a way to do it with night shift.0 -
So if my last meal is before 7pm and I eat again at 7:30am is that fasting?0
-
I've been fasting for almost a year and have lost over 150 pounds. It's a game change for me. Helps me control my appetite and keep my calories in check.7

I've been doing intermittent fasting for over a year now and have been able to maintain a healthy weight. This article by Dr. Mercola delves into other health benefits in addition to losing weight or maintaining a healthy weight.
@sbantonio your transformation is amazing because you obviously worked out along with IF. Being physically active is just as important as the quality of your diet and it shows!5 -
I started MFP again almost a month ago, and I am mostly doing IF because of my work schedule. I just sort of fell into it but it's really working for me. I never really ate breakfast before anyway but would start getting hungry around 11 am. Since I work 12-8:30 monday-friday, I don't have a lunch until about 4 PM and that will be my first meal of the day, and then I eat supper at 9PM when I get home, so mostly only 2 meals a day. I only start getting hungry around 2:30 or so now, but it's no problem because I'm distracted with work. I haven't weighed myself yet, but am already fitting into my winter coat that I couldn't even zip up a month ago so it must be working This also helps me keep within my calorie goal because I can eat two big meals instead of picking low calorie for 3 or more meals.5

Well done!!!!
Highest of fives!!!
I cut out my evening snack, then started not eating breakfast.
You’re right, it’s not hard.
Congratulations!!0 -
Great transformation OP!! I never heard of IF before reading this post and I'm wondering if I've been doing IF and didn't even realize it. I eat in the morning between 7 am and 8 am, then I don't eat again until my lunch between 12 pm and 2 pm. That's all I'll eat during the day until the next morning. Is that considered IF?0

Yep! That would be considered something like a 17:7 "protocol" (fasting 17 hours and 'feasting' 7 hours)1 -

Ok, great! Thank you for the response0 -
I don't really understand why there are so many people who think IF is an idiotic philisophy!
I asked a question about a fasting schedule and I got the majority who don't get and crushed it.
Now if my thinking is correct isn't it just a schedule of eating?
Why do you guys do it?

I do 14:10 (10 AM-8 PM and one 8 AM-6 PM) most days but it's because that's what works with my work schedule

Yes, it is just a schedule of eating. Some people believe there are other benefits from it (thanks, Fung) when there aren't.
How about supporting your statement that there are NOT additional benefits of IF with some facts please? Otherwise, it is just your opinion.

So this IF can be done only a few days a week? I'm trying to start, but when I wake up at 4:00 am to get ready for work, I have to have milk in my coffee and there goes away my fasting period. What is the least hour period that you can start with and see results?1
-
Wow! Impressive. Guess you don’t need any of us to tell you well done, but I’ll say it anyway...well done!0

0 hours fasting is the least you can do and get results.7 -
WOW! How can you fast until 1:00 pm? If I don’t have food until 1:00 pm and to top it off I’m a woman , can you imagine ? Congratulations though . Amazing job you’ve done there . When I saw your first picture, first thing that came to my mind was the guys at the beach in my Latin America home country . Most of them look like that in the beach . Beer belly . You look great .I got the tattoos after I lost the weight. On my 50th birthday last October. I do IF every day. I fast until 1pm. Thought it would be hard but it's not.

Intermittent Fasting increases insulin sensitivity. Insulin sensitivity = more efficient in dealing with carbohydrates.
Insulin sensitivity is the key to weight loss. Also cures type 2 diabetes in 95% of cases. Lowers blood pressure and HDL cholesterol as well.

That is both incredibly simplistic and inaccurate.
I don't want to hijack the OP's thread with this, but there is moderate evidence suggesting improvements in blood profiles, including insulin in studies in overweight individuals. However most of these fail to control for total caloric intake (which is THE driving factor for the reduction in adipose tissue, which increases insulin sensitivity in itself).
Ultimately each person does what works best for them, and regardless of the smaller benefits there might be with IF, it is not a magic bullet and for obese individuals the reduction in body fat - however they can manage to get there - will be the single biggest improvement they can make for their overall health.
OP, bloody well done on your transformation! You're looking awesome.8 -
You look awesome! Now you are strong and healthy and added some happy healthy years to your life. CONGRATULATIONS!!!0

I have been considering IF. I am already eating at a deficit, so other then a calorie deficit, why fast?0

Good job, OP. I cannot do IF because I am T2Dm and fasting makes my blood sugar go up (need to eat several meals spread out over the day) but you make a good case for those who can do it.
I just started IF and in 2 weeks I have lost 7.2 lbs. I'm also Type 2D and my doctor Okayed me to do it and I feel great, it was just the boost I needed.2 -
Fantastic transformation. I practise IF and eat around lunch time as my first meal of the day. It makes it easier for me to stick to my calories!2
-
I am doing IF as well. I started last week with 16:8 and before that I have been doing 5:2 with isagenix and I have lost 31 pounds. The eating window keeps me from ever being tempted to cheat and I love it. I am sleeping better and I have more energy as well. I definitely feel like I can do this for a lifetime.1

Kinda jealous. I like food too much and eat every hour on the house. I'm kind of like a goat0
