I understand my caloric intake is too low but...

I am about two weeks in to my new eating habits. I've tried every diet in the book so my body reacts fine whenever I mix things up. I am eating very healthy, taking out sugars (but not arificial sweeteners) and lowered my carb intake. My caloric intake seems to be around 700-900 cals a day but then I work out on the elliptical for 30-45 minutes everyday (burning between 350-650 cals). However, I never eat back those calories. I have no issues eating this little. I do not feel like I'm constantly starving or feel weak when working out. I am trying to lose weight and I didn't mean to have such a drastic caloric change so I want to ensure I still will lose weight. As of right now, I haven't lost any weight but figure since it's only been two weeks, I obviously need to give it more time.

It's possible you aren't losing weight because you aren't eating enough. Your body is already so limited by your low intake (and then working out on top of that your net calories are incredibly low) your body is probably fighting to hold onto whatever it can. You should make sure you are eating at LEAST 1200 calories and try to eat half of your calories back. It's really bad for you to not eat enough and you are probably stalling your weight loss because of it.0

on a day when you eat 700 cals then work out 650 your netting 50 calories! I don't think you wil loose any weight at all if you carry on like that your body is going to be clinging onto any bit of fuel it can get! don't get me wrong I have days when I don't eat my goal and exercise aswell but i try to net a min 1000 and 1200 the majority of the time.0

increase your intake of protein and that will increase your calories. It seems like your body is getting too few calories so it doesn't want to give up any nutrients, like fat, this is called starvation mode. I know you might not feel hungry, but if you've been doing this for two weeks you should have lost atleast a pound or two. Also, try some strength training not just the elliptical your lean muscle mass will burn fat more efficiently that doing the elliptical everyday.0

Read the link above. You may be fine now, but eventually it will catch up to you. I ate too little and lost weight fine for a few months then I sent myself into a long plateau until I started eating more and giving my body the fuel it needs. You'll regret it later if you keep on this path. Nothing is more annoying than doing everything right and *not* losing.0

At that low, you're forcing your body into starvation mode and being counterproductive.0

The problem is that if you are regularly netting such a low number you WON'T lose weight... and some people doing the very same thing you're doing have been known to gain... You are only harming your body by not eating enough... there are TONS of threads on this... you should probably search for them and read them...0

You are probably starving and dont even know it. If you go so long with out eating very much and ignore those hunger pains... they ago away because your body doesnt want to waste the energy. Your body is hanging on to every single thing you give it because it has to.. its probably trying to store it too because it doesnt know when you are going to not get anything! Try adding calories back in, its really the only way...0

Seriously, if you don't eat back your calories, you won't lose weight...But it needs to be healthy food not any junk foods...
I found this out by my own experience..when I eat my calories..as many as is possible, I lose weight. When I don't, I do not lose weight..I'll maintain and sometimes gain...0 -
When you're on the eliptical, try tightening your muscles while you're doing it so that you're working more of your muscles at the same time. It takes concentration, but it can be done. Tighten them by flexing them and you'll feel the burn. Also remember that decreasing your caloric intake by too much, (ie skipping meals) can slow your metabolism, so keep that in mind. Just make healthy choices and exercise portion control. FYI, there are some vegetables that have what you call, "empty calories" such as lettuce, which means it takes more calories to digest them, than is in them. I hope this helps.0

I have been struggling with the same problem. Increasing calories has worked for me. Also, try taking a multi-vitamin. This ensures you're getting enough nutrients and helps your body realize it let go of the extra pounds without being deprived.0

You're not doing everything fine because you're not eating enough, but you've already said that you think your doing fine even though you're not eating enough so I don't understand if there's a question in there. You've already diagnosed your own issue, you just won't admit that it's an issue.0

SO it is right then , when i exercise and put it in myfitnesspal it gives me those calories back to eat. I thought i was doing something wrong. I think I get it now, but now getting me away from the sweets in the evening is tricky. Do u have any ideas??0

If you find eating enough too much, have you thought of having protein shakes, it will help your body in its recovery and it will give you the extra calories you need.0

QM...don't have them in the house! Its the best way to keep from eating them in the evening...and if you just HAVE to have some sweets in the evening..get the sugar free kind....It helps...0

Eating that little is probably unhealthy for you and I personally have never experienced this "your body will hold on to everything" phenomena.
I would worry about sustainable eating habits more than anything. I'm shedding weight like crazy, against my will due to illnesses. Now that I'm finally feeling better, it is really hard to eat a normal diet. I have become used to 800 calories a day with no corrections for medication induced vomiting and diarrhea. I've never had an eating disorder and now I'm beginning to worry if I will ever enjoy eating a normal diet again. I'm giving myself one more month to get back on track before I seek professional help. Overcoming mental eating issues is worse than having some chub.0 -
Mine is horribly low at the moment, all week its been around 330 on the highest day and 90 on a low day, and about 150 today. I'm too ill, I cant eat or drink I'm looking forward to being able to taking some food in.0

Your body is going to lose weight...by eating it's muscle. Not a safe amount of calories and won't be attainable long term...you may feel fine now, but TRUST ME...it will catch up with you, and could easily end in a binge.0

Well I'm off to bed now and I've been throwing up so bad today that I've netted minus 29 cals. Hell fire. This is day 5 and Ive lost 8lbs. I do not recommened the acute pancreatitis diet at all0
