A colossally bad idea. Topamax already has a phentermine-like effect.

My experience with Topomax (which I'm on for migraine) is that the appetite suppressing effects eventually wear off over time.

There are other cognitive side effects that can be devastating (as alluded above) which make it not really worth taking. Fortunately for me, I don't really experience more than minor cognitive issues, and frankly, I already experienced those thanks to a benign brain tumor. It's hard to tell what's causing the issues, the drug or the tumor, tbh.

If you're already on 100mg of topamax then you'd know if you were going to experience appetite suppression as a side effect.

How long have you been trying to eat at a deficit? Maybe you should talk to your doctor if you're having problems.

Unless the surgeon removed substantially less stomach than they were supposed to, the limited loss you experienced was not a failure of the surgery. You should probably find yourself a new bariatric specialist and get back to the basics. You need to re-train yourself on how to use the surgery the way it was meant to be used.

The brutal truth is that if you didn't lose the weight after surgery you were still eating too much. And that has nothing to do with the surgery itself. The two drugs you have mentioned suppress your appetite. You cannot be on phentermine long term so you'd still have to figure out how to keep eating less. And as above, Topamax doesn't have the nickname dopamax.

Oh geez, *does have the nickname dopamax. As you may tell, I too am dopey today.

Topamax can be used effectively in the right situations, but the side effects can be atrocious. I mean, it's great that it apparently works for you for migraines, but I'm gobsmacked at the idea of you wanting to add something *more* to amplify those side effects.

If Topamax was going to make you lose your appetite, you'd notice it at your current dose, or when you changed doses.

Frankly, considering the side effects of both Topamax and phen when taken alone, it would probably be better -- and I suspect your doctor would agree -- that you learn to control your eating instead of relying on the meds to do it for you.

I have to agree with @VintageFeline. Developing different and sustainable habits around food seems as though they'd be more helpful to you and your health than these two drugs due to their potential side effects and inability to be taken long term.

The solution needs to be something that comes from you, not something you rely on from the outside. The drugs and the wls are both tools to support you, not the answer themselves. None of those things will do the job for you. Only you can do that for yourself.

I take 100 mg per day of Topamax for migraines. It has zero affect on my appetite. I still gain or lose depending on what I'm eating. It's all about a deficit. Maybe you should see a new bariatric specialist to work on your food intake issues if surgery wasn't enough.

I gained over 90lbs while on topamax (For migraines) It didn't do anything to my appetite what so ever, I think I just had a really bad year and binged my way into morbid obesity. I'm still on it today and I've lost nearly 30lbs. So long as you log what you're eating, you'll be fine, but as always you should consult the GP that gave it to you.
