Thanks!! Wasa silly question then.. very simple... if only0 -
Calories in vs. calories out.
What this means (simply) is taking in fewer calories than your body expends. Google your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure.....aka maintenance). This is an estimate. Eat fewer calories than your maintenance & you lose weight.
Specific foods aren't required, eliminating foods is not required. Moving more is great - but again, not required.
Measuring & logging portions is a great learning tool. You will find some calorie bombs. You might find some foods just aren't worth the calories (to you). This knowledge will help you maintain your weight loss....because a smaller you is going to have a smaller TDEE (based on same activity).7 -
If you're eating the calories MFP calculated for you then (if done accurately) you're doing CICO.2

Not a silly question!
Seems simple, but this "diet" is why we are all here.
Gaining weight because we are eating too much and not burning enough calories
Some inaccurately logging who swear they aren't overeating, but they are gaining weight
Some extremely under eating too lose weight faster1 -
Just want to add something...calories in vs. calories out isn't always about taking in fewer calories or burning more than you eat unless you are specifically talking about losing weight
Calories in is lower than calories out = weight loss
Calories in is equal to calories out = maintenance
Calories in is higher than calories out = weight gain
Just wanted to clarify, because some of us eat more than we output to gain weight, and CICO still applies8 -

True. I definitely gained by eating too much & not using enough up. I did this before & lost well. Had not heard the CICO term! I will stick to accurately logging & hopefully losing the 19lb I put back on!1 -
CICO is how EVERYONE loses weight (aside from surgery). Be it "Keto" "Vegan" "Paleo" whatever. Some people use these ways of eating to get into a deficit, but still lose weight the same, CICO.4
