Joint pain + Plateau Help

Since February, I had lost 28 lbs sticking to my calorie goal and walking 3-4 nights a week. I hit a plateau in the middle of June and yo-yo'd between the same 2 lbs since then. For the past two weeks I have been working hard to get in more exercise and different kinds. Instead of just my regular walks, I've been hiking locally when I can, water walking one night a week at a local waterpart and spending some of my walk time jogging. It's worked and I've lost a few lbs but I am having terrible pain in my knees and ankles, probably since last Friday. My mom warned me about the stress on my kness from tying to jog. Genetically, we have bad kness though I've never really had a real problem with it. I'm wondering if doing C25K and putting a little jogging in my daily walks to too hard on my knees. I don't want to decrease me activity level either and I really want to get into running.
I do drink about 64-100 oz of water a day and maybe one diet soda a day if I need the caffiene and spend lots of time stretching.
Any advice?

Check your shoes. When was the last time you were actually fitted for a pair of good running shoes vs getting them at a big box store? Might also need insoles as well. Might get a refferal to an orthopediest to get a custom knee brace for you. Also, start taking a good quality fish oil to help lubricate your joints. There's a lot that you can do, you just gotta do it! :-)0

Your exercise sounds great, especially if you still have a significant amount of weight to lose. Excess weight can add a tremendous amount of stress to joints. While running is a great exercise, one should be relatively fit before doing it. If it's aggrivating your joints, your body isn't quite ready yet. You'll get there, though!
The culprit in your plateau may be strength training or caloric intake. Make sure you're netting at least 1200 daily and include strength training in your exercise program.
I wrote a piece a few months ago that might help. Have a read, and I hope it offers some insight.
Good luck!

Hello! Congrats on your progress so far! I'm sorry to hear about your knees, i myself have joint problems and have found that running is a HUGE no no but jogging has become ok (not too much) since i got a great fitted pair of running shoes. it has also become easier since i lost more too. I find the more support the better i.e. better sports bra, lighter workout clothes and great sneakers helps.
Yogi is also a great burner and easy on the joints, it has helped with my pain as well.
feel free to add me so we can walk through this pain together!0 -

I net around 1350 a day, with or without exercise, I do eat back nearly all my calories and I try to keep as much of the food healthy as possible.
Also, I do have a very comfy pair of cross trainers. I love wearing them but they may be too soft. Recently purchased at the dreaded Lady Foot Locker.
My fear if I go back to walking is that I am going to plateau again. Also, I know that I am probably still too overweight to run but I get the urge. After I'm warmed up from walking, my legs feel like they want to run.0 -
I have problems with my joints as well ( Dr. says I have extremely loose joints) try a "joint juice" or glucosamine of some type..Try it for a few days to see if it helps but try to take it as needed and not daily..0
