A little scared......

I have been a stay at home mom since 2007 and in the last 4 and half years I have gained a staggering 15 pounds. I know exactly when and where every ounce and pound entered my mouth. The mindless grazing throughout tIhe day, the 2 glasses of wine every night, the 8:00pm dinners gorging on pasta and bread and let us not forget my favorite....tonnes of fruit any time, all the time. I wake up every day on a diet and I go to bed a failure. I know I love myself enough to do something about it but it's like I have an evil twin that overtakes my body at 3:00 pm and I start making out with the fridge. I have two boys with autism and their eating menu and schedules do not coincide with that of my husband an I. So I find myself in the kitchen all the time cooking for one, then for another and finally for my husband and I. I told myself that at some point I am accountable for my own actions. I can put the blame on so many things but, in the end, I am the one that has control and if I choose to eat when I shouldn't, or worse, eat junk when I shouldn't, then I alone am the one to blame. And I alone am the cause for my failure. I don't want to be a failure. I want to feel healthy and fit. I don't have a support group and this is my first time on any diet program on line. Oh yes, I have tried diet pills etc, etc., but this is my first diet program on line. I don't know really how all this works. I am learning as I go. Having said that, I am not sure if anybody will see this blog but I hope I can find some support with this new program. So as of today, August 4th 2011, I am going to make a change in my life. Wish me luck!!!

I joined MFP last November and it has been one of the smarter decisions I've ever made. You can't think of what you are about to begin as a diet, but a lifestyle change. Feel free to add me for support! This is a great site and it has all of the tools you need to accomplish your goals. You just need to put forth the effort. Good luck!!!0

I am a stay at home mom also since 2007. Unfortunately though I have been having a battle with my weight since I started trying to have children. I have been blessed with three beautiful children but cursed with an extra 50 lbs. (lol). I recently started myfitnesspal.com. I'm excited to say that I've already lost 7 lbs. since I made up my mind to do this and I know that we can both do this together. From past experience I know that it's my mindset. I have to make up my mind to not eat junk food, to watch my portions and calories and the weight will come off. Good luck. Feel free to message me. We can support each other!0

Yes good luck it is ok to be scared, by the sound of it your working very hard, and like most mothers you are not thinking of yourself, WELL DONE for that.
I don't know what you have set your weight lose target to, make sure you are eating enough regular meal through out the day.
Don't think of this as a diet, think of it instead a life style change, small step, change one unhealthy thing you buy at a time
(if its not in house you can't eat it)
instead of junk , food cook a recipe you can all it(even if it is at different times) when you have free time get out of the house, go for a walk , a swim , or bike ride which ever you prefer. Remember you are worth it !
Also remember you are not alone!
Good luck on your journey0 -

Welcome to the site. Gaining 15 pounds in 4 and 1/2 years is not something to beat yourself up about. That is only 3 pounds a year and just in normal aging through life they say that in each decade of your life you can put on 10 pounds. For you though this is something that is really bothering you, so you are on the right road to starting a new life style of exercise and healthy eating. Just a note I put on 30 pounds in less than one year and trust me I know how it got there. I have now lost it in 9 months with a lot of walking and changing my eating habits. Find something that motivates you towards a healthier body. An event in the future that you want to look really nice for, etc. Then take baby steps, don't make big goals make little one and achieve them the big ones will follow. drink your wine but knock it back to one glass a night then the next week back to every other day. You will find a big difference just in that. Good luck and everyone is cheering you on.0

I am also a stay at home mom. I have 3 kiddos of my own and I watch a lil boy and will soon watch his new born brother (when he makes his entrance into the world).
Your post shows that you know what has to happen. YOU have to be accountable. YOU have to tell yourself to stop eating. YOU have to walk away. It's so hard to do....I am a horrible late night snacker. Chips, chocolate, cookies...you name it, i want to eat it. And lots of it!
I had to get to the point that I was sick of seeing the fat girl in the mirror...I had to take control back and I had to send her packing. She is no longer welcome in my life!
YOU CAN DO THIS! (If I can do it, any one can!)0 -
Another SAHM here! Please add me as a friend if you would like. I have struggled over the years but haven't looked back since joining MFP. You've made a great decision but you'll need support to keep you going - and it is here in abundance! Good luck to you!0

I'm a stay-at-home mom. I lost all the baby weight except for 5 pounds. Then I gained 50 in the last 2 years. I'd love to support you. I just joined MFP yesterday. I'm trying to read the boards on this website more than I check my Facebook account.0
