Lost Motivation - need help please!

I did really good for a whole year. Lost 55 pounds while putting on muscle. I felt great about myself and never wanted to stop. But. Life happened, got stressed/busy and started stress eating while not being as committed to the gym like I use to be. Now whenever I get myself motivated it only lasts for 2-3 days and I just feel to tired/exhausted to continue it. I crave all the bad foods again (CARBS!) and feel self conscience going to the gym because of how obvious it is that I gained the weight back and feel judged (even tho I know no one really notices me/cares - can't help but feel that way).

I try to think back to what motivated me in the first place but honestly, I did it cold turkey and never looked back, till now that is. I've tried buying something new to get me excited again (like a new outfit or gymbag) but that only lasts a day.

Anyone else have this problem? And how did you get out of this rut? Even when I do go to the gym now, its half *kitten* and I'm not pushing myself as hard as I could or should go. Any suggestions would be great! Thank you :)

    Motivation is fleeting. Work on your determination to lose weight. As you said, nobody is going to notice or care that you regained.

    What is so bad about carbs?

    I just mean carbs as in chips, 3rd helpings of any kind of pasta, muffins, cakes, etc all the bad carbs haha

    Carbs aren't 'bad' it's just they can be more calorie dense, so keeping an eye on portions is wise.

    As another poster put it, motivation is fleeting... so how badly do you want to keep that weight off? Enough to keep an eye on your intake?
    because that's what it boils down to. If we consistently eat over maintenance calories we would gain. Its your choice but personally it's worth it.

    I’ve been in the same rut for a while so I’ve started looking at this forum and that’s helping. It’s nice to feel I’m not on my own and also that anything is possible. Good luck! X

    Success stories and pictures tend to build my motivation. Go look at some of those threads. Almost everyone looks so much younger, better, and happier closer to their goal weight.

    I keep trying to convince myself to get after it again. I lost 40lbs last time I did it(cold turkey like you). I was overboard but successful. I keep sitting here reading about doing what I need to DO !!! Good luck with getting going. BTW, my weight loss was several years ago and of course its back+.

    I think each of us has some phsycological baggage that is unique to us, that sometimes gets in the way of pursuing weight loss goals. Sometimes I think it is related to "fear of success". Maybe do some deep, honest, soul-searching and see if anything comes to light.

    Bottom line, you are worthy of a healthy body and mind.

    One thing I have learned is that this will happen many times in our life. We need to learn what snaps our *kitten* back in gear so that the next time we fall off the wagon we get back on quicker.

    I’m saying all this while struggling to do the same but for me I struggled to get back on track and gained 10# doing it. I know how you feel about going to the gym after regaining weight. I felt like I needed to lose weight at home before going back to CrossFit. But after that didn’t work week after week I realized that I needed to stop caring what anyone may thinks about me.

    None of those people in the gym have to live your life and feel what you feel so screw them and do you. Good luck!

    Motivation is one thing, knowing and understand craving for bad food is an other thing... food addiction is real , read about food addiction and nucleus accumbens and how high sugar or high salt food (or carbs) activate happiness in your brain when you are stress or sad... same thing with smoker or drug... when I understood, my way of eating did not became a diet but a way of life. I have no more craving for bad stuff.

    I am very stress, border depression, but I keep going forward, I decided to stop being a slave to my craves and sweet .

    Getting weight is easy...Losing weight is hard... like life if it was too easy it would not worth living.

    Keep on your good work, do it for you and like people addiction to drug ... don’t buy any crap or chocolat , you can’t eat it if you don’t buy it. Fight that taste in your mouth when you think about something . You are strong I’m sure.
