Going out to dinner tonight.... Should I have a sandwich on

The restaurant isn't super healthy and thus has no nutritional info on website. Going with a grilled chicken sandwich, would it be better to get it as a wrap instead of a hoagie?

funnily wraps are usually higher in calories! I would stick with the bread, but make sure to get rid of mayo / other fatty toppings personally.

I would get it wrapped in lettuce or stick to bread. Good luck!

If they have a website, the FDA guidelines indicate they must display the nutritional information. (In the USA)

I would think the wrap is lower in calories, you could always go for a grilled chicken salad or a piece of steak with some veggies. I eat out a lot and the steak with veggies is usually my go to meal.

Almost positive this is not the case, unless you can show me the guideline. I think a place has to be of a certain size before they are required to publish this information.

Honestly it's probably about the same, bread or tortilla. Looking at about 200-250 calories for the wrap or bread alone.

If you want to make sure you ditch those calories, just eat the meat portion. I had lunch the other day at a BBQ place but it wasn't bad at all since I just ate smoked chicken with only like 1tbsp of sauce.

So I've heard the calories in bread and wraps are pretty comparable, what about hoagies? Do they have the same as wraps?

The bigger the bun the more calories.

One average sized flour tortilla wrap has 90-120 calories. One single slice of bread can have that much. If you think about how long of a piece of bread is often on a sub... you're looking at 200-300 calories on bread alone. I say the wrap is a better idea.

Order it as a sandwich, and when it comes take the bread off and eat with a knife and fork. You can eat some bread at the end if you're still hungry.

I went to a burger place the other night with family and did this. I waited a couple of minutes after I'd finished the inside of the burger and realised I wasn't that hungry and only ate half of the bottom of the bun. If I'd eaten it all together I would definitely have eaten the whole lot, and probably a lot faster!
  • Explain to the people you're eating with that you're trying to eat healthier. Be the first person at the table to order and you might even change their minds to eat something better for them too.
