Morning Workouts

I've switched to morning workouts lately - and I really like them so far.
I feel way more energetic in the morning and the workout goes by fast.. it's nice.
I hope to continue with these ...

45 mins at the gym at 5:30 in the morning is working great for me so far. Can get in either 5K (less than 45 mins) on the treadmill, 15 k on a bike or my weight lifting done.

And still be at work for 7.

I swim after work a couple days a week, but that still fits my schedule.

Agreed. Things always come up after work preventing me from going to the gym. If I go before work nothing gets in the way. And the hardest part of becoming an early riser is the first day. When you get into the routine it becomes much easier to just get out of bed when the alarm goes off.

I have been doing it for almost 3 years now.
I know that I would have excuses for not working out after work and would end up not doing it at all in the evening.
Besides, there is nothing like getting it out of the way and not having it looming "to be done" the whole day.
Hope it works out for you long term as well!

I hope so - so far it has been 3 days - and I feel that it gets my day off to a good start. I woke up at5:45 , got to the gym by 6:20 - worked out till 7:20- went home got ready, and was at work by 8:50. I usually get to work between 8:30 and 9 so it worked. But I want to also get to work earlier - by 8:30 - so my hope is to maybe just start heading to work from the gym... gonna try that tomorrow and will update everyone..

I agree that morning workouts are great. It puts a good start on the day and less likely something will come up to deter you.
I shower and get ready for work at the gym, it's a big timesaver.

I’m jealous. Any time I drag myself out of bed to go to the gym I throw an internal fit the entire time and then for a couple hours after.

Honestly with how tired work makes me, I try to get in morning workouts on my days off(T,TH). Once I finish them, I feel like I can relax the rest of the day!

Do you just pack your stuff each evening?

Yes, as part of my bedtime routine I pack my gym bag so it's by the door ready to go and I put together my breakfast and lunch (prelogged) in a bag in the fridge ready to grab. I also set my gym cloths out. So everything is easy and ready to go without any thought in the morning.

I used to be someone that would never work out in the morning but now I love it. Honestly the first couple of days I slept in my workout clothes to make sure I did it in the morning because the hardest part was waking up and getting ready. But, now I keep my preworkout beside my bed. I set an alarm and drink it and in 10 minutes I'm jumping out of bed. Also, I could never drag myself to the gym and it took so much time to get there and back which meant waking up so early. So I got Beachbody on demand. I don't use their super expensive equipment or shakes or anything but for half the price of a gym membership I can be out of bed and working out in less than 10 minutes. I set out my mat and weights and stuff just before bed. And even if I go to my sister's place for a few days or something I can still workout even with just my phone.

Plus working out in the morning has me energized all day, I eat healthier all day, I have way less excuses than at night when I'm tired or hungry or busy etc., I'm happier all day, my preworkout gives me the energy so I'm not drinking a bunch of extra coffee. Totally recommend it. It took me a few weeks to get in to a routine but it's great.

I've been getting up at 5:30am Tuesday-Friday for two years now and can't imagine doing anything different. I love my morning workouts....and this from a self-confirmed former night owl :)

I respond to a lot more posts about weight-loss than fitness, but I think this is key to both goals - whether you start big or start small (and I recommend the latter) give yourself time to figure out what works for you. The first thing you try might not be what sticks, and that's okay! Be patient and keep trying - if you give yourself time and don't get derailed by "failure", you'll find what works for you.

Awesome! I am going to try and do that starting Monday. The gym is about 7 minutes away from my house - so going home to shower and get ready hasn't been bad! I figure - it would take me that long to get ready in the morning too! So far - so good.

I also live very close to the gym, however I find I get distracted easier at home. So if I go home to shower then it takes me longer to get ready because *squirrel*
That is also why I pay the gym fee instead of working out at home. I'm much more focused and productive there then when I try to work out at home.

Another self-confessed night owl here, and a big fan of sleeping in. It helped me to think that if I wake up at 6 and do my workout at home, I will only be losing out on those 20 minutes of sleep. That thought has made all the difference and it gives an accomplishment for the entire day!

Now that I have a regular M-F 8-5 job (I used to work three 12 hour night shifts) I've found that unless I get up at 5:00 with my much more motivated and responsible husband, I usually will not exercise. There is a stairwell at work that I will walk up and down for 20 minutes of my lunch hour sometimes, but most of the time that morning walk or weights is all I get in.

Hi I really enjoy working out in the am. Although it has been challenging waking up in the morning, my overall health has really improved.

I have all of the workout gear that I need at home - - lifting and cardio - - and I workout at all hours - - morning, noon and/or night.

I'm about to hit year 5 of getting up early to exercise....best habit I ever got in to. If I didn't do it then, it just wouldn't happen.
