Started over AGAIN, but now picking up steam

Hello everyone. I joined MFP years ago some where around 2013 and did not stick to anything. I am 5'6" and at that time I was around 250 pounds. Over the years I have tried it all.... but Fitness pal was very helpful so I keep coming back. So here I am, a couple of months ago I was 275 pounds. For some reason I could not bring myself to just jump back in... so I started slowly. First I cut down on the junk food. Then I cut out the fast food. I then just focused on cutting out soft drinks... including the diet drinks. I replaced all with water... Of course i drink diet drinks occasionally. On black Friday i purchased a FITBIT... I'm not really exercising but walking alot more.
The first thing I noticed is that I stopped GAINING weight. Then I noticed I started slowly losing inchs in my mid section.
The final NEXT few steps to my trying to come back was cooking for myself again and tracking my food. As of today i weighed in at 266.6! My weight loss goal is 259. I figure 10 - 15 pound increments would be best for me right now. Ultimately I would like to reach 175.
My whole holiday goal at this point is to continue putting all of these things together so that I don't gain any weight during the holidays. Tomorrow the parties start. I'm a little scared. But I'm also optimistic. I'm gonna eat and drink water before each party this weekend and pray for strength. Nobody knows what i am doing because im tired of failing in front of them. I know this post is all over the place but that is where my head is.
After the holidays I'm going try to incorporate going to the gym I pay for every month. Please pray for me!

After each party, weigh if you normally would daily but remember it might take a day or two for things to settle down if you're eating foods you don't normally. I'm restricting a little through this month too, I like the feeling of control actually.2

Thank you Melanie I'm gonna keep that in mind. But I'm also gonna track every morsel.2

I think slow and steady is the way to go - that way you build habits you can live with for the long-term, not just while losing weight. Plus you have time to figure out what works and what doesn't, what you can't live without and what you're fine cutting out or down. You're off to a great start - keep it up!2

I think that’s a terrific way to go about it!!! Welcome back!1

It is a good way to gain control..to change bad habits as you naturally want to change them. Sounds like you're on a good path.2

I'm doing the same thing right now. I lost about 20lbs a couple of years ago thanks to MFP, but I got burned out and gave up. I kick myself all the time because I could have been at my goal weight by now if I had stuck with it.
My motivation right now is not buying pants a size bigger. I have never been bigger than my current size, and I refuse to give in and accept it. If I buy the pants, I'm that size, and I will not do it.
I'm about 2 weeks in of adjusting my eating habits and slowly incorporating weighing and logging foods again. I've switched to diet sodas and I'm packing veggies and yogurts for lunch now instead of chips and snack cakes. Like you, I'm taking things slowly, and it feels very manageable. Good luck on your journey!1 -
Lucky thank you so much for your support. I am doing good already. Today is my office Christmas party... already there is every imaginable sweet laid out in the kitchen. I looked at everything and then thought about all the calories. The calories I may not be able to account for and then I made the choice to eat one of the Fig newtons I had in my purse along with a cup of tea. I'm really good right now. The luncheon will be here soon enough. LOL0

Sometimes I find that the sheer act of wearing something like a fibit can help. When you are thinking about going over your calorie limit, look at your fibit and it will help remind you of your goals! That may just be a me thing but it is a nice wearable reminder.0

This is how I initially started and not telling anyone about it is what helped the most.1 -
I am in the same boat as you, same exact scenario, so I know how you feel. Looks like you're off to a great start! I am trying to go slowly t his time too - in the past I've always tried to do everything full steam and it became overwhelming and I would just quit. This time I have some health concerns that need to be dealt with and no longer ignored, so I am quite motivated, but still trying to change one aspect at a time. Right now focusing on logging my food and walking at least a mile a few times a week. Just logging food is such an eye opener and I love seeing the reward for just moving a bit more! I actually have a party tonight and I logged on to see what strategies others use and yours was the first one I came across! Some good advice on here. I bought a new FitBit a few months ago, but haven't charged it yet. I think I will do that today - that will be a good reminder to keep on track and I think I will plan on having a nice, big, healthy salad before I go. Good luck to you and keep it up!0
