Hi! For years I have sort of tolerated my weight and shape but I am now tired of it. I have always been sort of healthy because I do physical activities like walking, biking, and yoga. I have become more serious about my weight and health just recently because I am done having kids and I want to get back to work (not going to be easy!!). When people find out that I want to lose some weight they look at me like I am crazy. Well, yes, I am not overweight, but there are parts of my body that are sort of out of shape namely the belly! I do think that in order for me to have a toned body I need to lose some weight. Not that I want to be skinny or anything like that, I just want to lose the flabs. I just want to feel good about my body and look good to others. Is that so wrong??

Nothing wrong with that. People look at me crazy too!! It's about how you feel. I'm trying to lose in my legs and some in the belly area. I'm not overweight and when I reach my desired weight I won't be underweight either. But I want to lose and tone. Good Luck!

Maybe what you're saying is ....... you want to lose fat ...... but gain muscle. Your weight might actually remain the same but you would be healthier (look up threads on skinny-fat).

You would "look" trimmer with toned muscle. It has a nice sleek shape; fat takes up more space and has no shape.

Since this is about fitness, you absolutely should be here if you want to improve it. It's good to take that kind of responsibility for your health. Welcome!

I have never been overweight, but never satisfied with my body. Heck, I was never really at the top of normal BMI, either. You aren't the only one. There's lots of people on this site that are in the same boat as you. Its about being happy with your body and getting fit and healthy.

That's the beauty of MFP, doesn't matter if you want to lose 1 or 100 pounds, it can help :) I'd definitely suggest trying some strength or interval workouts to get more muscle tone, and it helps speed up your metabolism so you burn more calories and fat. But as someone else said, doing that won't lead to a huge drop on the scale, but I bet if you measure yourself while you're doing it, you'll see your inches shrink :)

I think that so many people struggle with being overweight or obese in America, that if they see someone that looks "thin" or "average" to them...they criticize you for trying to "lose weight." I say go for it! You can absolutely tone up and lose fat

Count me in! I was always within healthy BMI and never overweight, but my belly was poofy and squishy and I needed to lose some fat (and now I'm looking to tone up overall). People have said the same to me, "but you don't NEEEEED to lose weight!" My classic response to that was "you've never seen me naked!"

So far I'm down almost 10 pounds and I'm starting to see some muscle definition!
