Losing the last 12 pounds

Hi ! I am new here on the forum but I have been using MFP for a long time now.
I am 24, and I have PCOS. My doctor told me the best BMI for managing PCOS would be 18.5.
To reach this goal, I still have to lose 12.4 pounds.
However, as I have a normal/healthy weight now, I find it more difficult to lose them... ( My BMI is now 20.2).
Do you have any advice ?
I would also like to hold accountability with a group of people that need to lose their last pounds too. Feel free to add me !
Thanks a lot and good luck on your journey !

Can you share exactly what you're finding difficult? I lost my last 12 pounds the same way I lost the others, by consistently hitting my calorie goal. It just sometimes takes more patience and accuracy in logging. If you share what isn't going well, maybe we can help.

Your doctor thinks you should be at the edge of underweight to control PCOS? That seems a bit extreme.

Seeing how BMIs 18.5 - 24.9 are considered a healthy weight, I'm curious as to why your doctor wants you at the lowest end of the scale. Do you have a small frame? http://www.myfooddiary.com/Resources/frame_size_calculator.asp

As I'm sure you know, the final pounds take a really long time. Don't set your weekly goal to more than a half pound per week and be patient.

Here's a group you might like. (I have no idea how active it is.) http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/499-not-that-heavy-girls

Hi SteamPug ! Yes I would love to be friends ! Feel free to add me .
I am actually a small frame with tiny wrists and elbows but I have very long feet and hands ...
My doctor tells me that for managing PCOS the lower the BMI the better ( but still between 18 and 25 of course ). As with a BMI of 20 I still don’t manage certain hormone imbalances he stresses me to loose more weight ...
Yes it is actually hard to loose them and to stay motivated . I feel hungry all the time . Maybe I have been aiming too high with my calorie deficit ...

When you were hungry all the time, what was your weekly weight loss goal set to?

You need to set your weekly goal loss to as small as possible, and not worry if you don't see a drop in weight daily or even weekly.

This thread will help you understand why.

Thank you for the awesome trends , I was aiming to lose at least 1 pound a week but I guess I have to re-evaluate that !

I also need to start weight lifting ... some say it is not recommended for women with PCOS because of androgens ... but I don’t see how to change my body composition if I don’t ..

I have "lean" PCOS and was never advised to lose more weight to manage it.. I would recommend playing around with macro ratios (lower carb can work for some) and definitely add in strength training and I wouldn't overdo the cardio. In some cases, going to the very low end of the BMI can also mess with hormones and you may lose muscle at that point which is not what you want so be mindful of that.

If you really want to lose a bit more, I would aim for 0.5lb per week or less. Since you are lean trying to get leaner it can be very slow and frustrating.
