Hello! I am new to this site as well as new to counting calories! My name is Ashley and I am getting married October 22 of THIS year...oh dear. I have been engaged for well over a year and a half and constantly told myself from the beginning that I WAS going to lose weight and that I was NOT going to look OR feel this way. Well, one excuse turned into another and here I am in the same position I was in when the best man in my life popped the big question. Great...three months until I get married and I am nowhere near where I THOUGHT I would be. SO...time to hang up the regrets and at least do what I can do about it now. I know I am not going to make drastic changes before then, but I can make a few that will at least start to make me feel better about myself.

The first place I lose weight is in my face. Believe it or not, I am so thankful for that now, because honestly, I would rather my face not look like a blow fish in pictures that are NEVER going to go away or change! So, I am more worried about that than I am anything at this point!

My final dress fitting is August 27, which is just a few weeks from now! I am hoping to at least lose a few pounds by then, though I don't think it is going to make a difference. My problem, that I need advice with, is how do I lose weight up until the wedding, yet make sure my dress doesn't have to have alterations right before the wedding? Any advice on what to do?

Like I said, I am new and I could use all the support I can get. I didn't even think I was going to start this (hence the reason I ate a chicken biscuit from chick-fil-a this morning!) Uhg. So, with just three months to go until the wedding....on your mark, get set, LETS GO!

Sincerely,
Bride-to-Be & Slim-to-Be! :)

    Welcome!

I'm in the same boat, 27 Sep- luckily I have a good tailor nearby who can alter my dress anytime. It really depends how much you have to lose- some reallly overweight can drop about 10lbs a month at first! if it's just a bit, then 1lb a week is a slow and steady target for long term loss. If you are unable to make any last minute alterations, why not just start slow- this is a lifetime commitment after all, to get healthy and STAY healthy! You will have the slim face for the wedding, you can cover the rest with a flattering dress!

    Good luck xx

Good luck! Feel free to add me as a friend if you like.

Proper weightloss is a slow process so you should be ok for your wedding, is your dress corset by any chance? Those dresses tend to be more forgiving with being too big or too small than simple zipper

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!! And good luck with the weight loss. Anything can happen in 3 months depending on how much you have to lose! I started out on this site in May at 151 pounds. Almost a full 3 months later I'm now 136. Just make sure you keep to your calorie goals and throw in some exercise here and there

Hello Ashley. You're getting married on the same day as my brother and I too and desperate to lose some weight before the big day. I'm not doing too well at the moment after being ill for some time but I have just come back to it and getting back on track. This is great community to help keep you going and there is some fantastic information. Feel free to add me as a friend if you like
  • I too am a bride to be. if you want some extra support....feel free to friend me. Focus on the positive and this will all fall into place.
Log EVERYTHING before you eat it so you really see what you are doing.
    Good luck with everything.
  • Hello there.
I started this journey the day I tried on the wedding dress of my dreams just a month ago. I am engaged to be married May 12th of next year so I do have a little while. Getting married is such a great reason to get in shape. It is the start of a new life so why not get a new you before you start that life. Feel free to add me as I need all the support I can get to. It is extremely difficult day to day. Especially when I sit next to the smallest guy I know who eats like he has a tape worm every hour on the hour and its usually junk. Today for example FRIED Chicken. BLAH! Anyways let me know if there is anything I can help with. Best wishes.

  • Congratulations 2x!!! For the wedding and for taking the first step in taking control of your weight! I feel like it helps a lot to count our calories and visualize at the end of the day what we could have done better. MFP is a great tool!!
You can add me!! I'll help you stay motivated! :)
Good luck on the rest of your day!!

    Simone
