If I am up for 18 hours how often should I eat to keep my body from going into starvation mode?

Eat when you are hungry. Starvation mode, as it is commonly used, is not really a thing.12

Yeah, not a thing...2

In case this is a legitimate question, starvation mode as such is a myth. Meal timing is largely irrelevant, though it may help with satiety.5

Well I was asking because I have often heard if you go too many hours without eating then your Body well start to reserve the food and store it. I have also heard that the more often you eat the better it is for you. I know I have to control calories in vs calories out to lose weight but was just trying to figure out the best way to eat to also help with the weight loss.5

Meal timing doesn't matter. So long as you are at a deficit, just eat when it suits/works best for you.
Think about it, if starvation mode in the way you mean it were a thing, there's be no anorexics or people dying of starvation.9 -

Start with logging consistently for a week or two. Then review those logs and look for small steps that you can make and stick with. Focus on what you are gaining, rather than what you are giving up.

These types of questions are more common than you might realize. Many of them come from crappy magazine articles, blog entries, and heaven forbid, Dr Oz (who still seems to have a following). Writers take scientific findings and bend and stretch them way beyond their actual scope and use that to make it sound like it's supported with evidence when it really isn't. Or it's supported under very specific circumstances and is completely irrelevant for the average person.2 -
By the thread title I was thinking damn I'm glad I didn't used to date him.10

My mind went there too! Or maybe it's a new Alphabet soup diet, where you can only eat the X's.2 -
People fast all the time, those using IF to lose weight do not experience any issues because starvation mode is a myth1

Although i must admit.. the title really doesn't make sense with the question to me.. lol
Does it make sense to someone else? Can you explain it?0 -
@HellYeahItsKriss Eating times2

No need to worry about this stuff. Starvation mode as it is discusses the way you did does not exist. In addition, eating schedule (eggs, 6 meals vs 3) can be based on personal preference. It takes your body 24+ hours to digest the food you eat. Going 6 or 8 (or more) hours between meals will not be problematic, assuming no medical complications and that it is comfortable for you.1 -

"Starvation mode" as commonly understood is almost as ridiculous as thinking that if you drive your car for too long without stopping to put gas in it, it will suddenly start using less fuel to move the car. ("Almost" because your body uses energy for a greater variety of things than your car does, and your body does have more ability to allocate energy among those various uses -- e.g., maintaining your immune system, maintaining and repairing muscles and organs, etc. But it's not going to prioritize storing fat over those functions.)1
