I weigh 270 and I'm looking to go vegetarian. I want to lose weight badly. I'm not a good cook. I do not know where to start. Please help. I'm desperate.

Put your stats and goals into MFP and get a calorie goal. Read the stickied posts and focus on logging accuracy and consistently hitting your calorie goal.

You don't have to go vegetarian (although you can if you want to) in order to lose weight. You don't even have to cook well in order to lose weight (although it's a useful skill for life).

Why vegetarian? Have you done the research to make sure you will meet your nutrition needs? Vegetarians need to pay close attention to some things they will not easily obtain without effort.

Cooking is easy. Go online, find a recipe and follow it. If it doesn't turn out perfect, try again.

Preparing healthy meals needn't be a burden. I have probably 15-20 meals I make from scratch and they are not complicated.

    Just start. :)

To lose weight, you have to not be desperate, and to not be desperate, you need to know what you have to do and what you don't have to do.

You need to consistently eat fewer calories than you burn. MFP has given you a daily calorie target to hit. That is where you start. If you hit that target every day, for real, you lose weight.

You don't have to stop eating anything. You just have to eat less. You can eat anything, as long as you eat less.

You don't have to cook, but cooking gives you more opportunities.

You can stay overweight by eating only vegetables, too. Protein has the same number of calories per gram as carbs. Alcohol has more. Fat has even more. Just when it may seem hopeless, I tell you it is not.

Use the food diary to log your food. Use a food scale to log your food accurately. Use your brain to log your food honestly. The magic happens inside your head.

Don’t go vegetarian just to lose weight. I’ve been vegetarian/ occasional vegan for 13 years and it’s just as easy to be overweight on that diet as any omnivores’. The most important thing is to cook food you’ll actually eat and eat in moderation. If you choose the veg lifestyle good for you but it’s not necessary for weight loss. Take baby steps cooking- and always have a fire extinguisher nearby :D

I'd consult and nutritionist or dietician first. Seek out cookbooks and youtube videos to help with cooking. I'd start with just a few recipes I really like and then search out more to add to my list.
