I just bought the fitbit alta a few days ago. It tells me being basically sedentary that i burn 2,600 calories a day. My calculated BMR is 1750, at 225 lbs, 5"4, and somewhat muscular for being out of shape. Today at 2pm today, it says I've burned 1200, and I've been awake since 10am with no exercise so far. Can this be right?

    1. It will take some time for your fitbit to adjust to you. So, sync it with MFP, log your food, and let it do its thing for about a month.

    2. 2pm and total of 1200 calories burned? Doesn't sound unreasonable. Fitbit resets at midnight. So it is telling you that since midnight you have burned a total of 1200 calories. The estimation might be a little off right now since you just got it, but 1200 calories for a 225 pound person and 14 hours doesn't sound unreasonably high.
