So fed up - injuries

All I want to do is exercise and lose weight. I am about to cry I am that pee'ed off with my ageing body (only 34! I'm being a tad dramatic here so bear with me!)
I had knee problems at the start of the year when I went back to running. Well when Is say 'back', I used to run donkies years ago but decided to start back. Not good, pulled ligaments in both knees. Had to stop exercise for about a month, get back into it slowly.
I started a new circuit programme in the gym about a month ago, going great. People had remarked on how toned I had gotten. It's a tough programme but I LOVE it. I don't know what I did the other night on the treadmill running but my ankles swelled the next day and they are still swollen/sore.
I went to the gym tonight and did VERY low impact stuff and some weights. I gave up after a measley 50mins/338cals later. I was just frustrated. Why is my body failing me when my mind is the exact opposite????!!!!! I'm sick of it.
I've mad an appointment to see my physio on thursday and I was thinking about getting a gait analysis done to see if that improved things.
Sooooooooooooooooooooo fed up right now. I am stuck on the same weight pretty much for ages now, getting fed up and wondering what's the point? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.......................

Don't give up.
I have been going through injury after injury and other physical ailments (asthma, vertigo) over the last few years. The scale doesn't budge. But damn it I'm not going to let my aging (49 yr) body beat me! If I am hurting in one place I work out another. The good news is I have worked so much with my knees to try to strengthen them I was able to walk 1 mile on the treadmill this week, twice!. A physical therapist told me a couple years ago I wouldn't be able to walk for exercise anymore. I used to not make it for 5 minutes without pain.
Keep going. It will get better. There will be bad days to work through, but there will be many more good ones.
(and I understand the wanting to cry. I've done it out of frustration)0 -
Just becaue you're minds ready doesn't mean your body is...it's been left unconditioned for a while now you can't just expect it to be in the same shape as you left it and be able to do everything you want it to, and pushing too hard is only going to reult in more injuries. You've got to take it slow...0

Injuries suck... I know.
But...
The point of all of this, whether its to lose weight, be stronger, or whatever your goals, is to live the best lifestyle you can for yourself. I know its frustrating that you can't exercise, but keep at it with eating healthy and taking time for your body to fully heal. Go for small walks if you can and life weights while sitting on your couch (upper body) if you can.
I can't tell you what's the point as everyone around has their own reasons for wanting to be healthier, but you had to have a point when you started and remind yourself of that point and keep pushing towards that.
Give your body time to fully heal and slowly ease back into the exercise. Talk to your physio about wanting to exercise and see what they recommend.
You can do it.0 -

Good advice. Will you whisper than in my ear every morning?0 -
Running is hard. I have knee problems and ankle problems. And flat feet. I even have problems with elliptical machines.
I switched to a stationary bike. It's been great. I'm 33 years old. I keep my heart rate at about 130-140 bpm's to better pace myself. When I wasn't tracking my heart rate, I realized that I was slacking off too much. I think I do about 375-400 cal for 30 minutes.
Oh yeah, I've incorporated elastic band band resistance to my arms when cycling to increase my heart rate when it goes down into the 120's. And I keep cranking up the resistance to stay in range.0 -
I felt this way about 3 weeks ago.
I sprained my ankle in the middle of half marathon training. It will get better!

I can relate to what you are going through. I am 30 years old and have had numerous ankle and knee issues. I have been in physical therapy 3 times. The only thing that orthopedic surgeons have been able to tell me is that my feet are flat, I have shallow sockets and loose joints, and my q-angle is off (the angle b/tw my hip and knee). None of these things can really be changed, it is way I was born, but eventually I most likely need joint replacement. I am supposed to work at keeping my quads built and keep my weight down to keep my joints in optimal shape. I take a lot of vitamins and minerals, and this seems to help some, as I don't want to ruin my body taking loads of anti-inflamatories. I try lots of different exercises to keep variety, and always try to listen to my body. Good luck, I hope your doctor can give you some answers to help avoid injuries.0

Thanks for all the replies. I know there are people out there with ALOT worse injuries, worries etc and I am being a drama queen but I am just sooo frustrated. I hate when stuff like this happens, I seem to lose all momentum.
My husband just looks at me when I say I am pee'ed off etc, that's why I like having like-minded people on MFP to give me words of advise/encouragement. THanks0 -
The third day I started My Fitness Pal, I had severe back pain and am now going to the chiropractor since my left hip is degenerating. It was absolutely humiliating dealing with it at the age of 22, and my chiropractor was confused about why I was crying. Now, I'm feeling a lot better but still taking it easy. I'm now dealing with knee pain, and it sucks... really sucks. I know how terrible it feels. But there's still a way you can work around it. You're going to have to take it slow, but you're MOVING. Every little thing you do to improve your body means that you're taking care of it and on to a very healthy life. I hope everything goes okay!0

When you see your physio(not quite sure if that a dr or a phyical therapist) have the gait analysis done. Also check to see if you're wearing the right kind of shoes/sneakers. I had a long term problem with shin splints and went through three doctors before a physical therapist told me that I shouldn't be wearing running sneakers(too stiff) and that walking or cross trainers would be better for me and the type exercise I was doing. Also I have orthotics in my sneakers, too for falling arches.
And you do need to take it slow. I'm 57 and joined a senior's class because I knew I was severely out of shape. I don't believe in pushing past the pain. If your body is hurting, it's trying to tell you something. I had to take it easy with my left knee for a while after straining it. If you have access to a pool or some type of water, you might try that. Much easier on the knees. Slow and steady wins the race!!0 -
One more thing: I've been trying to stay away from medicating myself too much to take care of pain. On my bad days, I used to I reach for Tylenol or Motrin. I read an article somewhere that those aren't good for liver or kidney.
I've started using EMS/TENS machine for my feet and ankles to help me on bad days. I got mine from heliohealth.com. The only problem is finding 30 minutes for eveyone to leave me alone while I shock my feet. On lighter pain days, I use massage.
PM me if you have questions.0
